Italian Meatball Casserole

This is a super dish to take to potlucks or get-togethers!! Everytime I've taken it somewhere, everyone has wanted the recipe!!!!!


Meatballs:
1/3 c chopped green onions
c Italian seasoned bread crumbs
3 Tb grated Parmesan cheese
1 lb ground beef
OR use 1 lg pkg premade frozen meatballs thawed

1 (1lb) loaf Italian bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
1 (8oz) pkg cream cheese, softened
c mayo
1 tsp Italian seasonings
tsp pepper
2 c shredded mozzarella cheese
3 c spaghetti sauce
1 c water
2 cloves garlic, minced or 1 Tb garlic powder

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. If making meatballs, mix together meatball ingreds and roll into 1 inch balls. Place in baking pan and bake for 15-20 mins til done. If using frozen meatballs, place in baking pan and bake for 15 mins or until heated through. Reduce oven temp to 350.
Arrange bread cubes in a single layer in an ungreased 9x13 pan. Mix together cream cheese, mayo, Italian seasoning and pepper til smooth. Spread mixture oven bread cubes covering each of them. Sprinkle with c of the shredded Mozzarella cheese. In lg bowl, mix together spaghetti sauce, water and garlic. Gently stir in the meatballs. Pour over the bread/cheese mixture. Sprinkle with remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake for 30 mins or til heated through.
Serves 5-7

The casserole turned out tasty. I was wondering if you could tell me what the difference is between Italian bread and French bread. I think the bottom was a bit soft, and may have been because of the bread. Any suggestions?
