    Wacky Cake

    1 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
    1 cup sugar
    3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 teaspoon vinegar
    5 tablespoons vegetable oil
    1 cup cold water

    In a large mixing bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa, soda and salt. Make three wells in the flour mixture. In one put vanilla; in another the vinegar, and in the third the oil. Pour the cold water over the mixture and stir until moistened. Pour into 8 x 8-inch pan. Bake at 350°F. oven until it springs back when touched lightly.


    Whacky Cake


    2 tsp. baking soda
    3 cups flour
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 tsp salt
    6 tbsp cocoa
    10 tbsp oil
    2 tbsp vinegar
    2 tsp vanilla
    2 cups water

    Directions: Mix in a 13x9x2 pan. DO NOT GREASE!!! DO NOT BEAT BATTER!!! Sift all dry ingredients together into pan. Make 3 holes (wells) in dry ingredients. In first hole put oil, second hole put vinegar, and in third hole put vanilla. Pour 2 cups of water over ENTIRE mix and stir with fork until blended. Bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes

    An easy, non-dairy, no-egg cake that is surprisingly moist. A vintage recipe from WWII days, when milk and eggs were rationed.

    1 1/2 cups of flour
    1 cup of sugar
    3 tablespoons cocoa
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    6 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted shortening
    1 tablespoon vinegar
    1 teaspoon vanilla
    1 cup cold water

    Preheat oven to 350 F. Sift all dry
    ingredients into an ungreased 9x9-inch cake pan. Make a well in the center and pour the oil, vinegar, vanilla and cold water into it. The
    combination will start to bubble. Mix with a fork until well combined. Don't worry if there are a few lumps, avoid overmixing. Bake for 25 to 30 min
