Donuty cupcakes

I've just made these and they are so light and fluffy and sorta taste like a fluffy donut, it's a keeper for me.
Donut cupcakes
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup self raising flour
  • Topping ~
  • 1/4 cup margarine, melted
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
I mixed by hand,
Margarine, sugar and nutmeg.
Added the milk and mixed flour and baking powder until just combined.
Put in cupcake papers and muffin pan to cook for approx 20 mins in a 375*F oven or until cooked.
While cupcakes are cooking mix the topping cinnamon and sugar and melt butter (keep separate).
When cupcakes come out of the oven immediately brush with melted butter and top liberally with the sugar cinnamon mix ( 2-3 at a time)
For me this mix made 8 cupcakes.

Thumbs up

I tested Kathy's (Bilby) Donuty Cupcake and they were great..Even my dh, who is not a big nutmeg fan, liked them...I am also going to try using cinnamon instead of the nutmeg. You may try half cinnamon and half nutmeg. I also added 1/4t of vanilla, I'm a vanilla nut, and may increase it a little with the next batch...You may also top them with your favorite iceing. or leave plain..I will definately keep this recipe in my box...They are great for breakfast time, after school, or having friends over. The recipe is easy to double and the kids can even make this simple recipe...Thanks Bilby for a great snack, desert, or what ever you want to make them for..Gloria Morgan...and Barb was crazy about em too...lol....

Hi Kathy, been waiting for to see this thread.
They were yummy.. Now my first bite was a tad to strong and had to take a 2nd and 3rd bite.. then my problem was there was not enought of them. They were good..
My question is for you since this was so unique is this an Austrian food or did you get this from someone else?
I'm thankful to see you did get a blue ribbon for it.. I also noticed you received another blue ribbon for some tuffles.
. way to go !!!!!!

Barbara, it's just a recipe I picked up on the net I have no idea where it comes from originally. It really surprised me how like donuts they are, tasty!
I'm guessing you could play with what goes on top to make it like your favourite donut
