Applesauce Cake

  • Applesauce Cake

    3 cups all-purpose flour
    3 teaspoons baking powder
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    4 eggs
    2 cups white sugar
    1 cup vegetable oil
    2-1/2 cups applesauce
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350F (175C). Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan.

In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Make a well in the center and pour in the eggs, sugar, oil, applesauce and vanilla. Mix well and pour into prepared pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and cool completely.
  • Hmm, I have a question for you. I substitute applesauce for oil when I make a cake; do you think I could just leave the oil out of this and it would work? Or what else might work do you think?
  • Cat Lover, I think substituting applesauce for the oil probably would work. The original recipe called for 1-1/2 cups of oil and 2 cups of applesauce.
  • What I was wondering about though if using applesauce in place of the oil if that would make it too much applesauce then?
