Humble Orange Slice Cake...

2 sticks butter
2 cups sugar
3 1/2 cups flour
4 eggs
1 pound orange slices, cut up
1 package dates and pineapples
1 package fine coconut
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
Topping:
2/3 cup orange juice
2 cups powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Coat candy and dates with some of the flour. Mix all ingredients together. Place in greased tube pan and bake for 3 hours. For topping: mix together the orange juice and powdered sugar and pour over hot cake. Leave in tube pan to soak up mixture.

Sounds good to me, but DH wouldn't touch it with the coconut in it and if I made it I'd have to eat the whole thing! Maybe this would be good to make one of those times when we have company!

“The value of doing something does not lie in the ease or difficulty, the probability or improbability of its achievement, but in the vision, the plan, the determination and the perseverance, the effort and the struggle which go into the project. Life is enriched by aspiration and effort, rather than by acquisition and accumulation.”
