Any one make homemade bread?

This is one frugal thing I never thought I would do1 But i tried it and love it! I got tired of buying the loaves of the cheapie white bread, no nutritional value what so ever! And the good wholegrain bread of at least $2 a loaf even at Walmart. And we don't have a bread store nearby. So I started making my own with half white flour and half wholewheat. What a saving on bread! And I am getting some fiber into my family. My dd who has some intestional problems. What a difference just getting some more fiber into her this way! I make up 4 loaves at a time, I don't have a bread machine I do it by hand. I actually enjoy the kneading, good for letting out frustrations!;-) I hope too have a freezer within a month, then I can make extra and freeze it.
I also love making homemade poptarts for the kids, much healthier! But again I need more freezer space.
Anyone else?

Hi Aubry!

I would love to start making my own bread. I feel the same way about the store bought bread! I do have a bread machine and use it often but I would like to be able to make 4-6 loaves at a time. Do you mind sharing your recipe and also the homemade poptarts sound great too?

Thanks,
Heather

Now that I have decided to Somersize with Shawn and am cutting out white flour, looking at the prices of whole wheat bread and bagels is awful! I have been considering getting a bread maker also. Don't think I would enjoy the kneading as much as you do aubry LOL

That would be great

I haven't bought a bread machine yet, but probably will in the near future!

Eeyore

I would love your recipe! Like I said above I want to start making my own bread. Is Amish bread the same as the plain white bread?

Thanks so much!!
