December Book Club

Wow it is time for the December Book Club.

Our theme this month is to read a book with a Winter Theme.

I wondered what theme won! I had to go search because I didn't get any notifications. I'll be looking on my kindle for a winter themed book.

I've actually read 2 novella's so far.

1. A Winter Heart, Sexy Amish Historical Novella
Amazon.com: A Winter Heart, Sexy Amish Historical Novella eBook: Annette Blair: Kindle Store

This was free on Amazon a while ago. It was okay. I've learned I'm not a novella type of girl because the stories are too quick. So that is probably why I didn't enjoy it as much.
Synopsis: Hannah Peachy has nurtured a winter heart since she lost her family in a carriage accident she caused. Caleb Skylar struggles with the horror of his wife’s suspicious death, and his six-year-old daughter’s memory-induced nightmares. When Caleb aimlessly pulls up stakes and leaves his home forever, Anyah Peachy, the spirit of Hannah’s earthbound twin, leads him straight to Hannah. But how can two bruised souls accept love as a reward for their transgressions?

2. Winter Warmers: An eBook Exclusive from Carole Matthews
Amazon.com: Winter Warmers: An eBook Exclusive from Carole Matthews eBook: Carole Matthews: Kindle Store

This was also free on Amazon a while ago. The first story was interesting but I did not care for the other too. Thank God they were a quick read!

Synopsis: Three short stories from the wonderfully warm Carole Matthews.

All I Want for Christmas is You
Christmas is around the corner but Maria just can't get into the spirit - will she ever find Mr Right? But when a secret admirer starts leaving her poems and notes, it looks as though her luck is about to change . . .

Cold Turkey
Tara is in love with a man she can't have. She expected to spend Christmas with him but when the big day arrives, she finds herself alone. Sad and upset, Tara just wants to ignore the festive season - and then a chance encounter changes everything.

About Gardening
I love my husband Sam but our relationship isn't what it used to be. Can I find a way to bring us back together?

I just finished this book for my local book group and it fits here too.

Winter Kill by Nancy Steedle
This is what I call a cozy mystery (not too gruesome). The reason we chose it for our local club was that the author set the book in Des Moines, Iowa.

Here is what Amazon says:
The deaths of a priest, a psychologist, and a young woman, all apparently due to natural causes, puzzle Homicide Detective Donovan Burke. Were their deaths really due to natural causes, or something more sinister?

Discovering that a bell was found beside each of the bodies, Burke searches for a connection, a search that leads him to Kristi Nelson. Are the deaths, as they seem, merely coincidence? Burke doesn't think so, but if a clever killer is roaming the streets of Des Moines, is Kristi Nelson his next victim?

As the holidays come to a close and a New Year's Eve blizzard envelops the city, it's a race against time, but time is running out for Kristi. Fleeing for her life, she races through the city's skywalks, unaware that down on the streets, the police are in a race of their own - a race to avert another winter kill.
