Elaine, in my household it's the family parties that are MORE stressful.
After the last one (2 weeks ago) I said "no more."
We'll see how long that lasts.
Luke is only turning 3 so I won't be having a "friend party" for him at this age. I had said that we'd just bring along a cake for him the next time we see his grandparents, and they can sing to him then.

I imagine we'll just celebrate as a family (just the 5 of us) the day before DH leaves. Then on Luke's real birthday I will let the Big Kids treat him like a prince. Maybe they can save "their" gift for him so he can open it on that day.
