Hi Everyone: Was just reading over past posts. There are so many wonderful ideas. I want to remember the flag being flown for someone. I wish I had known about that before my parents passed. My dad was a vet and very patriotic, he would have certainly appreciated that.
Thanks!

I can't believe I forgot about this one, especially since it's automatic with dh's grandma lol! How about pictures of family and friends? Label them(large, easy-to-read letters)and put them in an album or a photo box. This is great for families that never see each other--of course, it takes a bit of time, trying to get pics of everyone.

One of my grandma's favorite gifts was a portrait of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren--we were even able to get the ones "lost to divorce"(as she used to say).

One year I gathered up small 5x7 baby pictures of my parents 4 children and also of my parents and framed them in matching frames. It was neat to see how much we all looked alike. They just loved them.

Well, I wanted everyone to know, my Mom loved her birthday! I ended up making her a card on my computer, then I made her a crossword puzzle, cryptogram, word search, mazes and I did research on what products cost in the year she was born.(1922) I made the crossword puzzle with questions pertaining to her...who is the oldest child, name a ghost town in Mich., what is stove cheese? etc. I also used names of towns, food from this area, for her word search. Her cryptogram when she solves it will say, Happy Birthday Mom, We Love You! The mazes were pictures of candy, and a fishing scene to get through.

I think the best part of her celebration was, we planned a surprise party for her. My mom never had a party so the balloons, streamers, flowers, large sheet cake from the bakery and also 2 more of her grandchildren with their boyfriends flew in to surprise her too. She couldn't believe we did all this for her! She was crying as we all sang happy birthday to her...all 12 of us! Not everyday does your Mom turn 80! lol

So thanks everyone for the gift ideas...I think I will be using them for Xmas gifts...so many great ideas and they won't be wasted....I printed them out!

janet--

What a wonderful birthday gift you gave your mom. You sound like such a talented person, making cryptograms, crosswords, etc. And to have so many there to celebrate with her-no wonder there was crying. I think it's fantastic.

Thank you all! Yes, I think once I got the creative process going, with the help from all of you and ideas, it was fun!!! Now I also have ideas for Xmas gifts! My mom is still talking about her party. Something she will always remember! My brother from Florida couldn't be there but just as we were cutting the cake..he called! my Mom was just so happy to hear from him.

You are all so positive, creative, and caring people! Thank-you friends!
