Addiction?

This is just a little commentary I've been thinking about:

I've been sitting here wondering something about our habits and "addictions." Sounds so harsh but what other word could you use to describe the excitement we feel when we open our e-mail and see there are new posts on FC! I bet some of you, like me, will put off eating, going to the b-room, sleeping, answering phone calls, doing homework, etc... just to check in and see what our new friends are doing. Some of us already have other interests that are our saving therapies. I'm already addicted to hobbies/crafts/arts. I collect hobbies like someone would collect stamps. I guess you could say I'm a craft junkie/hobby junkie. But what do we call this addiction to FC? Do we call ourselves FC junkies.

Why are we so addicted to FC? There is no physical contact with the ladies we "meet" here. Unless we post pictures, it's left up to our imagination what our new friend may look like. We only know them by their online sigtag or nickname. The only contact made is with the keyboard, typing and then hitting "send reply." It's a cyberspace community and while it's name may sound somewhat vacuous, the friendships formed are not.

I know one reason I love it here....I receive validation. Someone, somewhere listens to me, responds to me and compliments me. And sometimes, the exchange hits a special nerve that says "Here's your twin, your sister! She knows you and understands!" And a friendship is formed. You know that this new friend will only say the nicest things to support you when you're down or celebrate with you when you hit a high point.

But you know what the nicest thing for me about my addiction to FC.?
...My FC friends bring out the best in me and my family appreciates this.

just a little something I wanted to get off my chest. sorry for waxing on

Oh, wow!! That was so well put. We have the most amazing people here.

I am not judged. I have "reaal" friends, and I can speak my mind.

This is the most awesome sight, and I can't wait for the weekend to come. Then I'm back with my "girls"!!!

Cyn, anytime you want to "get something off your chest", please do. That was beautifully said. I'm sure we all feel that way. Ergo the addiction.

In todays hectic, fastpaced, me first world, it's rare to find people who will take the time to REALLY listen to another and respond with a loving heart. So many times you hear a person brushing anothers concerns aside as unimportant. It's one thing when they are both adults, but it hurts me when this is done to a child. Children need to be heard. They need validation for their feelings or they grow up as insecure adults, afraid to speak up.

This site is a wonderful place. It probably helps some people more than any $100. an hour shrink can. And I'm not making light of the jobs that psychiatrists or psychologists do. But it's a job for them. We do this because we really care about others/one another.

So I guess if this is an addiction, it is being addicted to love, concern, honesty, empathy and sisterhood. Is that so bad?

Just my thoughts on the subject.
