My son's high school does require a certain number of service hours by graduation. Freshmen must complete 10. I don't know how many hours the other grades must finish--but I'll have to find out soon so I can make sure he does this.

The school provides plenty of opportunities for the kids to gain service hours there, through projects done by various clubs. Or if the student chooses, he can volunteer outside the school. He just has to present a letter from the organization, detailing the work he did and how many hours were completed.
