Hi Barbszy,
One night trips I do pretty well sleeping in coach seating. The chairs do recline back nicely and there is a foot rest. If I am traveling 2 or 3 overnights I will likely go down to the lounge car one night so I can stretch out on the floor. Not ALL conductors allow this but the ones that do usually say OK as long as you go back to your seat early AM before passengers start gathering in there again. I have also curled up on the floor beneath my seat or stretched out on two seats on the occasions I didn't have someone sitting next to me.
The aisle seat is more comfortable than the window seat for sleeping.

After a 2 or 3 overnight I am READY for a comfy bed to lie in!!!!!!!!!!

I travel coach by preference and budget! If you can afford the sleepers, (they are quite expensive) that is the way to go if you have a family. The price also includes all your meals.
