What a sad thread.. When I was a kid I remember being terrified by the "duck and cover" drills...

But as sad as it is it's a necessary truth for our kids to be protected while at school.

I don't think our schools are secure enough. Anyone can walk in past unarmed security.. There is a lock-down code, an evacustion code and a high winds code that would be transmitted over the loudspeakers.

There is an automated phone tree to notify parents, and an emergency e-mail notification system.. But someone in the main office has to put out the alarm.

It's something I have spoken about at school board meetings. Thank G-d nothing has ever happened ( aside from the occasional bomb threats called in by students) but the though iof it still makes me sick..
