I really enjoyed Hansel and Gretal when I was young. I remember the book even having a strange smell to it. I remember thinking about that story all the time. How intriguing a house like that would be, but how awful for the father and stepmother to abandon the kids off in the woods.

As I got older, I read "Island of the Blue Dolphins" (a girl is abandoned on an island all by herself). I must have been about 9 or 10. That was the first time I was sad a book was over. I, also enjoyed "A Taste of Blackberries" (a little boy gets stung by a bee eating from a blackberry bramble and dies) and "The Witch of Blackbird Pond" (a woman, during colonial times, accused of witchcraft being she could swim - she was raised in the Bahamas).

Now, as an adult, I enjoy reading to my son "Mr. Brown Can Moo", as well as "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie".
