It's a proven fact that kids that see their families read often become good readers also. I have always believed that it doesn't matter what kids read. Novels, newspapers, magazines, cookbooks, craft books, activity books, even comic books as long as they are reading. I have even encouraged my grandkids to read their breakfast cereal night a week each family member reads a few pages from a book. The book should be long enough to last 2 weeks. This extends the pleasure and excitement of reading the book. Each family member can find one interesting article in the newspaper read and discuss it. My 9 year old grandson loves to read certain sections of the newspaper. My two 13 year old Gs's are very active in the library clubs. Reading is a great activity for kids and can be lots of fun for them.
