Family traditions start with shared experiences, family
time together and special memory making events. Holiday
family traditions can be the most treasured. They connect
us and are a helpful reminder of the real meaning of the
holiday season. Try these suggestions for beginning a new
family holiday tradition:
Take a candlelit walk on a specific night (i.e. Christmas Eve)
just to enjoy the twinkling stars in the sky and to be together.
Have each family member write down a special memory from
a past holiday- put in a special 'memory box' (have the kids
decorate this earlier). Each year read the memories from
year's past and add new memories to the box.
Share the joy with others in your neighborhood. Bake a plate
of cookies/holiday goodies and deliver them with a special
holiday card to a neighbor that lives near by.
Read a favorite picture book about the season. Each year add
a new book to the collection. Pick a special time to read the book
(i.e. right after the holiday meal, etc.)
Decorate holiday ornaments. Make ornaments using fabric,
paper, photos, beads, sequins, etc. Get creative. Add to your
ornament collection each year.
