Kids & Chores

As a parent, I have been in the habit of doing things for my
children. It wasn't until I had a conversation with a friend of
mine regarding some of these tasks, that I learned that many
children perform a variety of these chores themselves. After a
long period of assigning chores, I have learned that my kids
are proud of themselves for the work that they complete... and
it has made my 'list of things to do' a little shorter! Here
are a few of suggestions on 'chores' to start with:

MAKING THE BED
After spending a little time with my children teaching
them how to make their beds, I found that they do a
terrific job!

FOLDING CLOTHES
Fold clothes coming out of the dryer. Start with towels and
socks. Work up to shirts, pants, etc.

DOING DISHES
Either load/empty the dishwasher or wash the dishes in
the sink.

FIXING SNACKS
Both afterschool and before bedtime. Showing how to
clean up afterward is important too!

READ TO SIBLINGS
Start here and work up to other homework (i.e. spelling
words, math facts, etc.)

Always remember to praise for a job well done! :-)
