Explaining Difficult Times

We are going through a difficult time in our family right now. Our
school recently had a 1 1/2-day lockdown and my father-in-law, who
lives next door to us, is very ill. Explaining these situations to our
children is important to us. In handling these difficult conversations
we reassure our children of our love for them and try to provide the
information as simply and honestly as we can without scaring them
and instilling undue fearfulness about potential violence and death.
It is sometimes hard when mommy has tears in her eyes as she
speaks, but they learn empathy and know this is important to us
and them. Always with love.
