Helping Your Child Deal With Tragedy

Help your child to both understand a tragic situation and
act appropriately in the aftermath.

Reduce trauma by remaining:

-- Honest - Offer the facts, before your child hears the
story from someone else.
-- Sensitive - Keep in mind your child's needs and maturity
level when explaining what happened.
-- Receptive - Anticipate and answer any questions your child
might have.

Children react differently, depending on personality and
life experience. Regardless of your child's individual
make-up, how you behave and what you say can help your child
deal with a difficult situation.
