The Stepfamily Survival Guide
Divorce and ensuing family issues are usually not so readily addressed, especially from a Christian perspective. Having gone through a very painful divorce herself, the author puts everything out on the open field. Almost every facet of emotion is brought to the table; whether good, bad or indifferent.
While discussing some of the more painful emotions, she is able to shed a sense of humor to the situation which helps bring it all back down to earth. Challenges are introduced that will most likely be faced by most families attempting to start over with new partners and children in tow, yet possible solutions for resolving these challenges are also presented. A very Christian based discussion of how to create amicable relationships between the two new families will be of valuable interest to anyone facing this phase of their life, or to those that want to be able to go forward and attempt to resolve past issues. For those focused on possible answers to current situations, impressive views of alternative solutions are offered. Some readers may find that it might not be easy to agree with these guidelines, but given the true test of time, they deserve to be considered.
The author speaks in the voice of someone who has truly withstood the test of time, and has been able to sit back and reflect on the conditions presented to her, her family and her extended family. Interesting "Discussion Breaks" are held in various chapters, which are cause for the reader to take hold of the scenario, think about possible ways to deal with them, and then be bounced right back into positive mindsets. After the "Discussion Breaks", there are no judgments as to how you might be wrong or right in dealing with a situation laid out in front of you, but instead helpful ideas to ease you and the family member involved into conflict resolution are offered. As readers, you are gently reminded of how life presents itself and how easily it can be to forget how important it is to balance all of life's joys and challenges.
Several references of support are listed at the end of the author's book. Support is always a blessing that shouldn't be taken for granted. Take note and use them as further support.

EDITOR'S RATING
Speaking from my own experience, it's nice to have someone professionally put into words many of the thoughts, techniques and fears that stepparents and their children have to face. It's obvious to me that the author has walked the walk. I praise her for her straight forwardness in addressing what can be a very difficult life situation. With the help of books such as the Stepfamily's Survival Guide, I truly feel you too can survive the whacky and wonderful life of the Stepfamily.
