H.O.M.E. Review: The World Almanac for Kids 2002

February 12th, 2013 posted by Kelly Huckaby

This has to be one of the hardest reviews I’ve ever done in my life. Every time I sit down to jot some notes, I get caught up reading all the cool information. There are even times when I can’t find the book, because my son is reading it. Well, like any self-respecting mother, I’m not about to make him stop!

Handling

This book is extremely easy to navigate. The table of contents has a photo for each chapter, so even beginning readers can find what they’re looking for. Color-coded chapters and bold page numbers make finding information a snap.

Overall Appearance

Bright, colorful, and kid-friendly, this book offers information in short snippets. No boring encyclopedia-style entries are found here. Chapters include many topics of interest to today’s children, such as Animals, Movies & TV, Sports, Games, Numbers, and Computers.

Modern

With up-to-date facts, figures, puzzles and activities, this info source will appeal to readers of any age as they search for all things factual, current and cool. New to the 2002 edition: U.S. history coverage giving kids the basics on the historic 2000 election; an extended Birthday list, giving a famous person’s birthday for every day of the year; healthy Super Snack recipes for kids to make; and Laughs – a first time feature, incorporating short jokes here and there throughout the book.

Educational

This book is a great homework helper, as well as a fun source of information. To accompany the book, check out the World Almanac For Kids Online where you’ll find more interactive games, polls and special monthly features. The World Almanac For Kids 2002 is a four-star resource book. For under $12, this full color, 336-page, 6″x 9″ book is a great investment, and will make a wonderful addition to any home library.
