Beautiful Brows
by Cathy Jacobs
Want perfect brows to compliment your adorable face? Follow these great pointers to get beautifully-shaped eyebrows... without paying big bucks at the high priced salon.
You'll Need:
A pencil (yes, the kind you write with!)
A few ice cubes in a bowl and a washcloth
A white eyeliner pencil
An eyebrow pencil one shade lighter than your brows
Tweezers
Toner or witch hazel
Hair gel or clear mascara
Step 1: Find Your Starting Point
To find your brows' ideal starting point, grab your pencil. Holding it with the writing end pointing down, press the bottom along the left side of your nose. Where the upper part of the pencil intersects with your brow, grab your white liner and make a mark (place the mark on the side of the pencil closest to your nose). Now repeat with the pencil on the other side of your nose, to mark the starting point on your other brow.
Step 2: Find Your Finishing Point
To figure out where your brows should end, you'll use the same writing pencil. Keeping the tip pressed against the bottom of your nose (start on the left side again), move the top part diagonally so that it connects with the outer corner of your left eye. Slide the pencil up until it intersects with your left brow. Mark that spot where it intersects, marking on the side of the pencil that's closest to your ear. Repeat on the other side.
Step 3: Numb Your Brows
Here's where the ice comes in. Pick up an ice cube in a washcloth (so you don't freeze your fingers off), and hold it against each brow for 10 seconds. This will help to prevent any pain from the plucking.
Step 4: Mow the Lawn
Are there any hairs in between the starting point of each of your brows? Make that uni-brow be gone, by plucking those hairs out with your tweezers. Then go to the ends of brows and mark any stray hairs that are growing past the end points you marked.
Step 5: Shape and Pluck
Grab your white eyeliner pencil again. Trace the bottom line of your brows, following their natural arch. Then grab your tweezers, holding them close to the tips for the best control, and pluck any hairs that are covered by your white guide-line, or that fall beneath it. Go VERY slowly and pluck the hairs one-by-one, stepping back every hair or two to look at your whole face and see how it looks. Do this on both eyes, and take your time!
Step 6: Soothe and Rest
Soak a cotton ball in toner or witch hazel and smooth over brows to soothe them. Wait 30 minutes before the next step.
Step 7: Here Comes the Groom
If your brows have any sparse spots, lightly fill them in with an eyebrow pencil that's one shade lighter than your natural brow color. Make short, light strokes with the pencil to make "hairs" until the area looks good. Then brush brows up and out with clear mascara, or dab some hair gel on fingertips and swipe into place. Voila!
