It is possible to create the look of a nook within the home without remodeling. The nice niche, then, offers a place to display a beloved collection, heirloom antiques, or family photos.

Doorways
A decorative shelf can be built custom sized for above a doorway. This shelf can include spindle rails that are decorative of themselves, display items atop the shelf, and items can hang from the rails.

Shelves
A decorative wood shelf placed strategically can create a trove for treasures quickly and beautifully. You may choose to add a decorative shelf below a standard grouping of framed photos. Choose varied-height candles and knick knacks to add interest to the grouping. The shelf also allows you to change the display with the changing seasons.

Corner Shelves
Corner shelves create nice nooks in a bedroom or bathroom where space may be limited. It, too, can offer the shelf for display, as well as hanging items, such a plant. Keep in mind the shelf will be carrying weight, so it is best to screw it into wall studs behind.

Displays
If you have difficulty selecting items for your shelf display, visualize it as a mantel. What might you set over a fireplace? A brass clock, candlesticks, an old German Bible open on a plate stand...the possibilities are limitless.

Take a look around your home to find places where a nook could add cohesiveness to an otherwise haphazard decor. A decorative shelf can create a look that anchors the room and offers a focal point in which to draw your guest's eyes to favored artifacts.
