An inexpensive way to change the look and feel of a room is to add or change pillows and decorative throws to your decor. Decorative throws come in various sizes patterns and fabrics everything from knitted afghans to store bought quilts. These decorative blankets or throws can be draped over the backs of sofas, chairs, ottomans, or on beds. It's a great way to add a splash of color to any piece of furniture or hide a stain or tear in the upholstery.

Combine the addition of throws to your room with pillows of various shapes patterns textures to create a fresh warm look. Some cost saving ideas are to make your own pillows out of tea towels. I have purchased bundles of tea towels at a local craft store for under $4.00. Another cost saving trick when making your own pillows is to use a beautiful more costly fabric for one side of the pillow only and back the pillow in a less expensive fabric on the reverse side.

Try buying inexpensive solid color pillows and embellishing them yourself by adding buttons, ribbons and ties. Wrapping a plain pillow in a soft fabric like a silk can give an elegant look. Linen or silk napkins can be used as well, some of these napkins are the perfect size with finished edges and all you need to do is sew together two pieces by placing the right sides of the fabric together and seam. Turn right side out and fill with poly-fill from any fabric or craft store.

Any combination of sizes and shapes can be grouped together for interest. Try mixing textures patterns and color combinations.

Changing your pillows and throws with the seasons is a great way to get a fresh new look all year long.
