Friends are so important! These cute little stick friends are a great gift idea for that very special friend in your life.
You will need
scrap piece of wood or precut sign (approximately 8-10")
acrylic paints in light blue and antique white
3 sticks from outside
gingham ribbon cut into 5- 2" lengths
medium plain wood button
decorative buttons: 1 bee and 1 daisy
6-8" length of miniature picket fence
small wooden rectangle or purchased woodsie sign>
6 wiggle eyes
white woolly yarn
4 colorful translucent pony beads
small scrap of pink ribbon
small pink flower
black fine tip marker or craft pen
hot glue gun
Paint scrap wood or precut sign with light blue paint and let dry. Apply a second coat. Thin some antique white paint with a little bit of water (1 part water to 10 parts paint). Just enough to thin the paint a little. Dip the bristle tips of a toothbrush into the antique white paint. Test your splattering ability on a piece of scrap paper before doing this on your wood. Hold toothbrush horizontally and drag your finger across the bristles, causing the paint to splatter spots wherever you aim it. When you are comfortable with this method, go ahead and splatter some antique white paint on your blue wood. Using a paintbrush, thin the antique white paint a little more and dab excess off of the paintbrush onto a paper towel. Lightly paint a sketchy outline around the edges of your wood.
Hot glue wiggle eyes to the sticks, allowing enough room on the "head" for hair. Cut the woolly yarn into pieces, some short and some long. Using hot glue sparingly, position yarn around the top of each stick, then glue pieces on top around the edge so that hair appears to stand on end. Using longer pieces for the stick on the right hand side (see photo). After the "hair" is dry, slide pony beads onto each long strand (one bead per strand) for the third stick, and glue a ribbon and flower to the front of the hair on the first and second sticks. Hot glue 3 sticks to the dried blue wood, positioning them to the right hand side as shown in the picture.
Shape the picket fence so that it wraps around all three sticks, trim if necessary. Hot glue in place. Hot glue the plastic daisy button to the end of the fence. Glue each strip of gingham ribbon together to form petals and position on plaque on the left side as pictured, glue in place. Glue the wooden button to the center of the flower. Glue the decorative bee button above the flower onto the plaque. Write the words "Friends Stick Together" onto the small wood rectangle and glue to the center of the plaque toward the top.
