Salt Dough Christmas Trees

If you are looking for a fun project that doubles as a really cute decoration, try your hand at these salt dough Christmas trees. Easy to make, fun to decorate, and so many different possibilities, this is the perfect Christmas craft!
You will need
1 cup salt
2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup water
acrylic paint in forest green and whatever colors you would like for the lights
green and pink glitter glue
Snow-Tex paint
paintbrush
cookie sheet
IMPORTANT NOTE: This recipe for salt dough makes a lot of projects. If you only plan on making a few, cut this recipe into fourths or in half.

What you do
Preheat oven to 250 F. Mix together, salt, flour, and water until a dough is formed. Knead the dough on a floured surface until the mixture is elastic and smooth. If dough is too sticky, sprinkle with flour, continue to do so until stickiness is gone. BE CAREFUL. Do not add too much flour, this will dry out the dough and will cause it to crack before you get a chance to bake it.
THIS DOUGH IS NOT EDIBLE, though it won't hurt you or your kids, it just won't taste very good!
Roll dough in your hands to form six different sized balls. Make tree from the balls by placing the largest ball on the cookie sheet and flattening it, then repeating with all the balls from largest to smallest. Form a peak with the smallest one for the top of the tree.
To make the smooth tree, simply roll dough in your hands to form a ball and roll into a cone shape.
Place them on the cookie sheet and bake for approximately 2.5 - 3 hours (note this is longer than most salt dough ornaments because of their dimensional rather than flat shape). Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. For best results, allow to cool and dry overnight, or for at least 4 hours.
Paint trees with forest green acrylic paint. When dry, add a coat of green glitter glue. Let dry completely.
Use paint brush to apply Snow-Tex dimensional paint. Dab on to look like real snow. This takes a while to dry, but if you are careful you can continue with the next step without waiting.
Use the wrong end of the paint brush to dot on colored lights all over the snow and tree.
For the smooth tree, use pink glitter glue to add garland and dot on lights and ornaments.
Let dry completely and display.
