Patriotic USA Box
Designed by Amanda Formaro

To see a larger view, click here
This cute little box is not just reserved for the Fourth of July! It is perfect for Memorial Day, September 11th, or any day you feel like showing your patriotism!

What you need

small box with lid
acrylic paint in red, white, and blue
foam stamps (star, and the letters U, S and A)
large scruffy paint brush
small paintbrush
acrylic sealer spray, matte

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on this page!

What you do

Paint entire box and lid with one coat of white paint, let dry completely. using scruffy brush, pick up some red paint and brush off excess onto paper towel. Lightly brush the red paint in long strokes across the outside of the box. Paint will (and should) look streaky. Repat this same process with blue paint on the lid. Some areas will be darker than others, you can rub the edges with the brush a little harder to add definition if you like.

Use the letter stamps and paint them with white paint, then stamp "USA" on the front of the box. Stamp the star with white paint on the top of the lid.

Spray entire surface with acrylic spray sealer and allow to dry.

Recommended: With 100 shapes to choose from, this cookie cutter set offers kids the perfect combination of fun and education. Placing the cutters in their various categories, for example, is a playful exercise that teaches abstract logic and builds confidence. Categories include letters, numbers, geometric forms, animals, plants, vehicles, symbols (such as a dollar sign and a question mark), seasonal themes, and miscellaneous shapes such as an umbrella and a bell. The cutters are formed of stiff, durable plastic, are colorful and fascinating enough to be used outside the kitchen, and are dishwasher-safe. A tip to grandparents: keep this set handy as a special treat, unique to your home, for little visitors.
