Drop Your Pants Here!
Designed by Amanda Formaro

Does your laundry room need that little something? Why not make this adorable sign from scrap fabric and an old chunk of wood to liven up your wall!

Please note: This craft was made in order to use up an old scrap piece of wood. This can also be made with a pre-purchased sign board and can be painted and finished in any color that fits yours decor.

You will need:

piece of wood, size is up to you, but at least 6" wide
sand paper
acrylic paint in cream and black
toothbrush
black fine tip marker
purchased picture frame hanger
2 nails
hammer
craft wire
small wire cutters
10 straight pins with round heads
2 spool shaped buttons
1 large gingham button
raffia
small scraps of fabric (we used denim, a paisley print, knit, bandana, and towel)
white craft glue
hot glue

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on this page!

What you do:

If you are using a piece of scrap wood rather than a purchased raw wood sign, sand all rough edges with the sand paper. Paint the wood with cream acrylic paint. Allow it to dry, apply a second coat. Using black paint and a toothbrush, fleck on black spots. Let dry.

Turn wood face down and hammer picture frame hanger into the center of the wood about an inch or so from the top. Turn wood back over and hammer two nails into the front of the wood, approximately 1" from the top and a 1/4" in from the sides (see photo). Using craft wire, wrap one end around one nail, stretch across the front of the wood and wrap around the other nail to create your clothes line. Twist ends and cut off with wire cutters. Use fine tip marker to draw dots across the top of the wood as shown in photo.

Using different scraps of material, cut out small items of clothing such as a pair of pants from denim, a small triangle from an old bandana, a woman's top from a knit sweater, and a small towel from an old dish towel. You can add pockets and cuffs to the pants with small cut outs from a patterned material, stripes or paisley add a nice contrast. Use white craft glue to attach the items of clothing to the wood. You may need to use hot glue to attach the tops to the clothesline. Add straight pins to the top of the clothes to look like clothespins.

Glue spool shaped buttons to the lower left hand corner of the wood, use hot glue to attach the 2 remaining straight pins, cross one over the other and glue in place. Thread a strand of raffia through the holes of the gingham button and tie a bow in the front. Hot glue button to the wood in the lower right hand corner.

Use the black fine tip marker to write the phrase "Drop Your Pants Here" across the bottom of your new sign. If you prefer a different saying, try one of these:
