  Pumpkin Votive Luminaries
by Cindy Trombley

These adorable votives give off a spooky orange glow and look hauntingly wonderful in a dark room. Use them to dress up your porch, place in your front window, on the fireplace mantle, or anywhere else you can think of!

You will need

Round glass votive holders
Rust-Oleum inverted spray paint (orange)
Amber Gallery Glass
Small piece of contact paper
Old toothbrush
black and white acrylic paint

NOTE: The Rust-Oleum paint comes out of the end of the nozel instead of the side. Cindy suggests practicing with it once before you spray the glass votives.

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on this page!

What you do

Draw 2 eyes (triangles) and a nose (triangle) and a mouth on the back of the contact paper. Cut the pieces out and apply them to the votive to form a face.

Turn the votives upside down (I usually put them on a tall wine bottle) and spray paint them with the orange Rust-Oleum paint. Let the paint dry well before touching.

When paint is dry use a straight pin to help lift up the contact paper. Remove all pieces of contact paper.

Apply the Gallery Glass to the clear areas of the votive where you removed the contact paper. Let the Gallery Glass dry for about 8 hours. Alternatively, use any color Gallery Glass you like, be creative!

With a pencil draw some lines down the face. *Float black down one side of each line, white down the other.

With an old toothbrush, spatter the entire thing with white. Repeat splattering with black.

Let dry completely. Add a votive or tea light candle and light your luminaries!

For the ghost, just spray paint the votive with white. Let dry. Paint on two black eyes! That's it, that easy!

Note from the author: "For the pumpkin with the black candle in the rim, I used a bottle I found at a garage sale. There are so many odd shaped bottles at garage sales and antique shops they are fun to play with! I spray painted the jar the same way as I did the others, but I painted the face in black with acrylic paint. Added the lines, spattered it, tied on a jute twine bow, stuck a candle in the top and I had a cute halloween decoration!"
