We went to Red Robin and I had a chicken burger and fries. Tonight we will have gingerbread cookies and candies for dessert.

Dinner tonight was Hoppin' John, home made honey wheat bread, home made noodles, and rice pudding.

2 tablespoons dried vegetable flakes
2 teaspoons dried minced garlic
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
1 14 1/2 ounce can of tomatoew with green chilies
1 cup chopped ham pieces or 1 ham bone
cooked rice

Mix all ingredients except rice in a large Dutch oven. Cover by three inches with cold water. Bring to a boil over medium heat and cook for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until peas are soft.

Serve over rice.

Makes 8 servings.

Rice Pudding

6 cups whole milk
3/4 cup arborio rice
1/2 cup sugar
pinch salt
1/2 vanilla bean
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix first four ingredients in a large Dutch oven. Slice vanilla bean lengthwise. Scrape out the seeds. Add bean and the seeds to the milk. Cook and stir over medium heat for 45 minutes or until thick and creamy. Add the heavy cream. Stir well. Stir in the cinnamon. Serve hot or cold.

Made a canned ham tonight about three pounds. Cooked it in my small convection oven wrapped in tin foil. Was very lean and juicey. Also made frozen potato patties, broccoli and a salad. Been eating red pears for dessert they are so good.

Happy New Year, everyone!
Since I am still awake, and it's 12:30 (and officially Jan. 1!), thought I'd post what is for dinner tonight:
Fried chicken, a veggie tray, and chocolate cake for dessert.
