Good grief Emmalee! The good Lord was sure looking out for you today! I'm so glad that you were able to react in time to prevent a tragedy. WOW!
I'm no good in an emergency. Lots of people have read my story about how easily I panic and how I always manage to either fall apart and panic big time or laugh, neither of which is very helpful. It's entertaining to say the least though! :p

Emmalee - I'm sooo glad you saved your house! My gosh, I'd be a nervous wreck about now! You must be exhausted! I'm glad you saved your house!

My mil gave me about 20 lbs of potatoes today! Yay, I love free! I told her I'd get her some onions when I go gathering with the kids this week.

...and use the 10 cents of a gallon coupon I got when I bought $25 worth of groceries. With the price of gas lately, my dh told me to only go to the store when I could spend $25 so we'd get the coupons on our receipts. I even had them divide my order so I'd get 2 when I spend $50...
Songberries,

Very frugal of you. I don't think we have gas-savings/grocery shopping deals here. Not that I have seen anyway. Good for you. My dh uses a ton of gas for work-driving, too. Cost $40 to fill up his big truck every couple days.

Thanks for the great cantaloupe recipes. And they are so inexpensive to buy right now! Time to stock up ($1 each).

joesbaby,

So glad your dh was NOT under the trailer when it fell. I am always worrying about my dh doing dangerous things like that. He worked under the travel trailer a few months back with it jacked WAY up in the air!! I was sure it was going to slip or the hydraulic jack break. Scary thing to see. He works under his vehicles regularly (hobby). I always worry when he fires up the chain saw. Hurts himself all the time (almost lost 2 fingers two weeks ago! ER visit with follow-ups at the doctor ). Sometimes he learns the hard way...sometimes he never learns...

So glad to hear you have your trailer! And that you finally have your "moving" check. You & Joe must be ecstatic!

rivermom,

Very frugal day for you! That reminds me that I need to make more freezer pancakes for us.

OSI,

Sorry to hear you were injured! Hope you are better soon.

[color=royal blue]mom2-4,

Glad you had a consultation with a lawyer regarding your son's "accident". May I make a suggestion? Whatever this woman should say to you, you may wish to report it to the police and to your lawyer as it may help their investigation and your legal case. Whatever you say to her she will most likely report also. Sorry you are all going through this nasty situation. Your son's injury is obviously very serious and I am praying for a complete recovery. bettdev,

Great shopping deals at Albertson's!

Oh, my! Emmalee! You saved your house from burning down. How fortunate you came home at the right time! I am amazed...

Frugal things for last week are the usual routine plus:

Prepared last week's meals from our freezer and pantry stock.

Last Tuesday we test-drove a used minivan (decided we wanted it) and took it to our mechanic for a "look-see". This was frugal as the garage may have found it needed expensive repairs. Which, fortunately, it did not! Had a minor exhaust leak which was fixed. The leasing company we are buying it from just replaced the transmission. This is frugal, too, as the tranny now has a year warranty on it. In 3-5 years I will trade this vehicle out for another one that is 3 or 4 years old. We always pay off our loans early to keep car payments and loan interest to a minimum. This is very frugal.

Wednesday I diced and froze 3lbs (99¢/lb) of green bell peppers for future spaghetti and chili meals.

Worked some more on my Price Book (updating it).

In anticipation of Winn Dixie's triple coupons last week (9/17 thru 9/21), sorted a pile of coupons from Autumnmum (great coupons, thanks!) and mailed her another batch of coupons.

Thursday I shopped loss leaders and used tripled coupons:

* 7 qts Silk Soy Milk 9¢ each quart (1.59 less 1.50 w/triple coupon)

* 2lbs Deli Roast Beef BOGOF (works out to $3/lb)

* 1lb Deli Cooked Ham $2/lb

* 3lbs Mueller's Sea Shell Pasta - Free (buy cheese get $1.50 pasta free)

* 6 Yoplait yogurts .35¢ each (w/50¢ tripled coupon)

* 3-20oz Dole Crushed Pineapple 59¢ each (w/40¢ tripled coupon and sale price)

* 4 Cantaloupes $1 each (some to freeze)

* 6ct Lender's Bagels 1.39 ($2.89 less 50¢ tripled coupon)

* 16oz Daisy Lite Sour Cream 69¢ (w/30¢ tripled coupon and sale price)

* 17oz Soft Scrub Gel 50¢ (w/50¢ tripled coupon and sale price). I never buy Soft Scrub any more (use baking soda), but I believe this was a good deal at 3¢/oz.

* 7oz Poppy**** (dh likes) - Free (1.33 sale price less 50¢ tripled coupon)

Also purchased the minivan. It is so much easier on my back. Much easier to get in and out of than the low sports car was. And it is more frugal than my old car as it uses regular fuel instead of premium.

Thawed a package of cream cheese to see if it froze well. It was slightly crumbly, but spreadable and yummy! Ate it with fresh-frozen sliced chives on a thawed bagel. Another freezer success! Will be able to stock up when it goes on sale as I can freeze it all.

I hope to check in more often. Will try my best...

EMMJEAN~~Congratulations on saving your home! That was absolutely heroic, even if it was your own. I am like you in crises--very calm. However, when the crisis is past, I fall apart and am totally worthless.

Leasmom~~I suspect we all can identify with the compulsively frugal lady in the Dollar Stretcher. Sometimes it becomes a real burden, I fear. My favorite grocery store (not counting Aldi) is SuperSaver. Last year after St. Patrick's Day, they put their corned beef packs on sale. I bought a couple, and they were wonderful. This year I was ready. After St. Pat's, I hied myself to the store and sure enough, they had corned beef on sale. So every time I went I would pick up a few. Then they put some on sale for 48 cents a pound! Well, I think I ended up with 20 plus. That's a lot of corned beef--it's so rich and salty, we just can't eat much of it very often. I took some to my ds in Texas a couple of weeks ago. We have cooked a few of them. At the rate I'm going, we're stocked up on corned beef for at least three years!

Having said all that, guess who forgot today was free ice cream at Dairy Queen!!

I also forgot.

HappyPuppy, glad to see you check in! Thanks for your advice of reporting what she said to me, I was not sure whether I should or not. Today, is supposed to be our appt. but, it is "flooding" here from all of the rain, the appt. for last week was cancelled due to hurricane Isabelle. Hopefully, I can get there today.

Emmajean-

So glad you were able to prevent your house catching on fire. that is scary.

Happypuppy- sounds like you made out like a rat in a cheese factory! Good going with the coupons. They sure help out alot.

I bought more towels this weekend, price came down on Sunday to $1.19 each (Cannon, made in the usa label). Will hopefully be going back before Saturday and picking up some more for Christmas gifts. I bought white so I can bleach them if they get stained.

Have been picking up extra used wash cloths at the thrift store for between .29-.39 cents each to use as cleaning cloths instead of paper towels. I've got a good assortment now. Also took a old towel, cut in half and will hem for dh to use for the truck. He is compulsive about cleaning the truck every week, rain, sleet, sun or snow and is forever grabbing my bathroom towels. Most of the time they come clean but in winter, not so good.
