I never used to save receipts but I sure do now! It's fantastic that they gave you a credit. I have GOT to get more organized in that department.
Joesbaby,
Wonderful on all of the strawberries. There are places around here and once I get the automobile paid for I'm going to a local farm here to do the exact same thing. There are so many things I want to save for, a small chest freezer is one but all in good time.
Anna,
Some of those storms hit Northern IL also, or so my brothers told me. I'm happy to hear you got home okay though.
Frugal today is not much, although I'm here at work. I thought I'd pop on and read up on everyone's adventures. DS has the car and he brought me to work and will pick me up. EX husband here visiting with the girls and will bring them home later tonight, then drive back up to Chicago, tonight. He's a strange one and I've not once regretted my decision of last year!
I haven't used many coupons lately so I haven't joined the Coupon Aholics. I mainly shop at Aldi but the Dollar Store here does accept coupons so lots of times I get good deals that way. Although...I won't buy shampoo there anymore. $1.00 for Suave when I can get it at Wal-Mart and even Kroger for $0.79 most times without a coupon. I do buy the toothpaste there though, $1.00 for regular Crest or Aim or Colgate and even AquaFresh, $1.50 to $2.00 for the tarter control or whitening versions. The regular toothpaste is just fine for us.
I tried an "experiment" this week that will turn out to be very frugal. I read somewhere, maybe here that those Huggies swim diapers can be laundered, hung to dry and re-used, provided of course that they are only wet. I tried it this week when the kids played outside in the hose, and it did work! So I will be doing that this summer, for sure! Even with sale & coupon those diapers are expensive. I was glad to find out that it works.
Yes, Barb I could have reassured that that it works to launder the "swimmers". I only used one bag last year and that was with DD using at least two per day, just about every day.
They do get very thin after awhile. I don't know how they work though. I tried to use them as overnights for DD, it didn't work, everything was wet! I kinda of wonder if we are just paying alot of money for something that they claim works? And there really is no way for us to tell if they do or not.
Watch sometime for Luke to pee, and see all the water run down between his legs. Well that is where dd's ran a boy might be different!
Picking strawberries sounds like fun. But, I would need a sitter for youngest DD, and I would probably eat too many as I pick. So the savings for picking my own would be used by the sitter.
You ladies that save so much and spend so little at the store are so lucky. I am sooo disorganized right now, I have a hard time keeping my grocery bill under $100 for a week. It doesn't help that all the summer fruits are coming in season, and I love the fresh stuff. I end up buying soooo much. I just can't resist.
Hopefully, in teh fall when school starts and youngest dd goes to preschool 3 times a week, I can get more organized. I am also afraid to stock up on freezer items, as our freezer is second hand, and the previous owners don't know how old it is, it would be very unfrual to loose all the meat in it if it gave out. So we are planning to buy a new smaller one this summer. Than stock it before fall.
Glad I have the extra refrigerator freezer in the garage. Love freezing the strawberries then chopping them frozen and adding a banana. Comes out nice and creamy like ice cream without the extra calories. Still have a service contract on the refrigerator in case anything happens to it in the hot garage. Most of the fresh vegetables last over a week out there since I don't open the door as much.

also went out and tried to ride my husbands horse..but that didnt work at all...my horse is now mad at me...and his horse is nuts. ok not nuts but i defiantlly wont be riding her again. i rode a bit..but she got mad at me and bucked up..i dont like her as much as mine. so i wont try again. ill stay with my own horse. at least i know how to make him do what i want. and i know what he does.
Anna,
Yes that storm was a wicked one! Last night there was so much thunder and lightening I felt like a star being chased by paparatzi!I swear it was a non stop flash for another hr...
Barb,
When our date gets closer for vacation you let me know what is best for you to meet either the zoo or aquariam is fine as dh wants to do both...It will be nice to meet you and you can hold the little Joshie washie as Evan calls him!
Karen,
We do have to go through Lancaster Pa maybe we could meet as well? Depending on the time from there to you maybe lunch??? That would be nice now Anna, you and I are only 2 hrs from one another so we need to meet some day as well!
joesbaby,
good going with the berries. Are you making jam?
we went to the annual Paris flea market today, its more of an antique fair but I didnt want a thing, so that was frugal...My step mom went with me and then she insisted on taking us to lunch. We had a good day, she pulled evan in the wagon and I pushed Josh in his stroller. Dh went to home depot of course that wasnt frugal but he needed a couple of things plus we had to get new sand for ds sand box. (the kids love it) Just glad it has a lid and it was given to us.
Have a question for those of you that use vinegar as a rinse aid how much do you use and do you put in the downey ball?? Or can you just poor in?
Also what are the ingredients for homemade window cleaner I cant find what I had written! Thanks
Leighann
Leighann, that would be nice to meet, but, I doubt it would work. As all my kids will be home, and it is too hard to round them all up to go somewhere to eat over the summer, unless it is the pool or Grandma's and that has to be planned in advance.
As for the vinegar rinse, I would put it in the downy ball up to the "downy fill line". I never tried to just pour it in, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.
But, my question is, has anyone ever used vinegar in the automatic dispenser? If so do you just fill it to the top of the dispenser with vinegar?
After my stinky washer incident this winter, we bought a new set. (not frugal) The dryer went out, and I am sure it wasn't long before the washer would have went also. Besides, I was tired of getting a ride every morning while the washer ran. Anyway, it has a dispenser, and I never had one of those.
Oh, after we pulled the washer out of its little cubby, it stank, terribly!!! The living room smells better now too, even with 7 guinea pigs, and a dog, which we didn't have last year. The washer was stinking up the place!!
As for frugal, I cost compared on the guinea pig food, I was buying a bag of just pellets, and a bag of the mixed stuff, and mixing it together. For, a little over $6 I was getting 8 lbs of feed, but, they had a new bag there this week, and for a little over $7 I got 10 lbs of the already mixed, so that was a little frugal.
I stocked up on margarine this morning, with the kids only having 9 1/4 days of school, I need to have snacky stuff and lunches for them. So I figured I can make chocolate chip cookie cake, that won't take as long in the oven.
Has anyone ever used a solar cooker? and if so, what type of stuff did you use? I would love to use one to make cakes and such over the summer, but I am leary of spending the money on teh supplies, and then finding out it don't work well.
choc. chip cookie cake??? YUM, please post the recipe.
Joesbaby, how do you put up strawberries? Do you can them, freeze them whole? I have a bumper crop that gets bigger each year and would like to save some for the off season.
WOW that storm in No. IL was a doozy too, you are right. dd2 asked if it was bedtime because it was so dark-and we hadn't even had dinner yet :p
My bil works at Ohare, they obviously suspended all flights. Some planes got damaged; not from lightning, but from the baggage trucks being blown all around.

choc. chip cookie cake, is really just a pan cookie variation. It was printed on the back of a package of Nestle choc. chips, years ago.
Just spread cookie dough in a greased cake pan, Bake in preheated 375* oven for 20-25 mins or until golden brown. My kids love it! and you don't have to keep putting pans of cookies in the oven.
