Something to think about....

Leasmom-

When you are thrift storing, do you ever see electric heaters? I have bought several for $3.00 or less, just in case. We have gas heat but sometimes it gets really chilly and rather than up the gas (electric is cheaper here) I just use the electric heater plus of course jogging clothes and warm sockies. Hard to believe cold weather is hitting us already. Here in Columbus, Ohio it's gorgeous outside, 70's and sunny but you can see on the national weather map the clouds coming in off of the coast, which I believe NC is about 600-700 miles from us? At least a 8-9 hour drive to Statesville, NC. I hope Nagymom will keep us posted today as to what is actually going on up there versus all the hype from the news stations.

Oh btw, we have sold 3 Buckeye necklaces here at work today.

To all the gals who are in the huricane area, Keep safe, warm and I'll be praying for you.

Frugal things for today, made a big pot of veggie/dumpling soup, want to sautee some zuchhini with tomato sauce and freeze some of it too. I did the same with some of the soup, as we use it while on camping trips.

Covered all my veggie plants last evening, didn't have a hard freeze, although tonight we are to get a colder spell.

In the next couple of days will be recovering an old footstool. Need to locate the big stapler, which is somewheres in this house. I am one who has certain places for certain things. but my dh doesn't follow that line of thinking.

Brought all my flower plants indoors, so now the house looks pretty much like a greenhouse.

Have a good day everyone
Joy

I had some in Tennessee but left it when I moved

actually I gave them away to a guy who really appreciate it. I gave him my microwave, my deep freezer, the heater and some other stuff...

I prefer to buy them brandnew so I know they aren't dangerous or have shortages. Maybe I can check it out. Fortunately, my electric bill is $50 a month, fixed at that amount for the year. But thankgoodness for now that it's only $50 a month no matter what I do.

Apparently, it's suppose to get near 60 today, the weather here is so strange! It'll warm up around 2:00 p.m. and then drop later tonight...odd. It's just those in-between hours. Like I said, in Tennessee we would be 70's too! I actually feel for my sister because they aren't even getting up to 55 today. She says where she is it snows in October...we're only 25 minutes away and they is always like a 5 to 10 degree difference in temp between us. It's suppose to be 76 tomorrow, so I think I'll just wait to call my landlord on Monday. I'd hate to waste $5 for nothing cause I don't have anyone else to call!

Joesbaby-

Oyster dressing/stuffing sounds out of this world! I love that stuff but we only make it once a year at Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Been quiet on here this afternoon, guess everyone must be watching the storm on TV.

Jayne,
One other way to have water on hand is to fill up your washing machine and the bath tub before the storm. I'd boil this in order to drink it, but it leaves plenty for other uses. Make sure you have water for pets, too! My 3 cats drink almost a gallon per day!
Any foods you can freeze...do it. The cheese you bought, freeze some of that. It won't hurt it, and you can use it to keep other non-frozen foods cold while it thaws.

Living in SW Florida for so long, these things are drilled into my memory.

Bettdev-

I am guessing Jayne may be one of the thousands of people they are reporting without electricity, we may not hear from her for awhile.

Wow........didn't think of that. I haven't listened to any news about the hurricane for awhile. I kinda get bombarded with hurricane info this time of year, and tend to tune most of it out.
Hope she's ok......

My frugal things today....heated up yesterday's coffee this morning, composed/ printed out copies of my resume' and faxed them to prospective employers. (Funny that they want NO contact with you, except a fax!) Refilled empty water bottles for my dd to use. (B/F buys bottled water, and we fill the empties with tap water!) Found a thrift that had buy 1- get 2 free on their clothes...got 3 pair of nice jeans for $2.00!

Does it ever get cold in Florida??

It's still cool out there and it took all day for the oven to warm up this large, airy old house-LOL! My last house it only took a few hrs to warm it up so hot you'd think you were in a steam room-LOL!

Today I did this, I took some cut tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, and celery and put them into leftover pickle juice. Dd will love that in a few days when they're ready, right?

I then took some more tomatoes and carrots and put them into salted water in a bag and placed the bag in a bowl. This keeps the veggies preserved and ready to go!
