Farmer Jacks

I heard that they were turning all of the Farmer Jack stores into Food Basic's...is it cheaper now? Gosh, I remember how expensive Farmer Jack was...but they did have B1G1Free...back when dd was a baby, my mom would help me to shop and we would stick to the B1G1Free items and she would take home the free stuff and man did we have alot of stuff...that was payment for babysitting dd. But, I think the prices shot up after that, and I didn't shop there anymore...I think Kroger's is the same as the old Farmer's jacks...so is Food Basic's cheaper now???

Hello Everyone!

Yes, again it's been awhile. It's been very busy here, mainly because I got a promotion and a raise!!! I'm now the Lead Workers' Compensation Secretary at the law firm I'm at. Yep, all in a few months!!! It took me handling one very critical uh oh and getting it resolved to show them I knew my stuff. When I think where I was this time last year, still living with an abusive now ex husband and the kids and I so unhappy, I can't believe the difference a year makes.

Frugal, hmm, been watching the pennies because even though I got a raise the ex has quit paying the extra bills that come along, like the charges the insurance co. doesn't pick up so I've been paying. It's pay it or it goes against MY credit. I'm making lists folks, I won't let him get by with it.

I've been checking the garage sales, heck even looking at garbage finds but nothing new yet. Haven't had much time to do any real garage sale'ing though. Hopefully I will this weekend.

DS, the oldest, turns 17 Friday, and he got his license last week so life goes on huh? Take care everyone, I'm having fun catching up on your posts!

Good going on the promotion and am so happy to hear your life is turning around... just goes to show we all have the inner strength when we decide to go for it.

I did think of all you this morning... I was driving to the doctors and saw a little tikes wagon in the trash, it had a broke wheel... if the trash truck hadn't been right behind me and I was afraid I'd be late for the doctor I'd have stopped and got it. I need a wagon for hauling laundry to and from the clothes line and I can't seem to find one at any of the thrift stores.. have been looking for over a year.

Rivermom, Door County is beautiful. I had never been there before. It's been featured in a couple of national magazines this year - they call it the "Cape Cod of the Midwest". So, of course, everyone jumped on that bandwagon. It's getting very commercialized.

Leasmom, where are you spending your nights when you drive to Tennesee? I'm asking because we stayed at a Comfort Inn last weekend. When we checked in, they asked us if we were members of AAA. If we had been, we would have been given a discount. I know you're a memeber, so it might be worth checking out.

Any of the Budget type hotels is where we will be staying

Comfort Inn, Budget Motel, etc. are all connected so I just gotta look out for those type of motels. I used my AAA card the last time on our way here, it's not too much of a discount, but any is worth it. If my bil can't fix my car this weekend-(just came from the library getting 2 Chilton Auto Repair books for him and his friend)-then we might rent a card, I can use my AAA to either recieve a $10 discount or to upgrade to a larger car for the same price as the smaller car. So, I'm got those coupons saved!!

OSI: I've run into a few BOGO deals at ALDIs in the fairly early a.m.s too. I've never been there late-they close at 7 p.m. here. But if I'm ever in that area at that time, I may stop in!

Gas at $1.99/gal here. Trying to maximize errands on every "run" into town, but with kids and their activities, it's hard.

Just a thought-garage sales have just gotten more expensive, too!

Rivermom-

Our's is $1.99 a gallon too... grr...!

I've found our Aldi's is open till 8:00 pm on Friday nights and it's right across the street from where I live so I usually will come home, make dh dinner, grab mil and run over there. It's not too busy that time of the night. So that's one errand I can mark off my list for the weekend.

Well I finished my first blue jean purse... wish I had a camera to show you all It has a red bandana lining and a red bandana going through the belt loops and tied in the front and red embroidered stick on or iron iron letters that say: On left leg
G
o

on right leg:

B
u
c
k
s

Oh and I made 2 shoulder straps out of the pants legs. The letters go at a right angle, spaced apart going down.

Update on Blue Jean Go Bucks Purse

I just sold the purse to a co worker, she said I want it don't care how much it is!

Unbelievable. I sold it for $20.00. Dh thinks I should charge $25.00 at our mall. I am also doing American flag themed ones.

Anna good job on the purse.

Rivermom, good point on yard sales being more expensive. I plan to avoid them unless one happens to be along the way while running errands. I'm not looking for much anyway, and don't have much luck finding good stuff all the mennonites beat me to the good stuff.

Not much frugal here, normal wash. Supper in the crockpot, so we don't order pizza to avoid heating up the kitchen with the oven.

Also I needed a new bigger guinea pig pen for our guinea pigs. The mom pig was pregnant, and I needed to separate her from the dad. Anyway, the neighbor told me they got a new pen for their guinea pigs, and I asked him if they threw the old one away, he said no I asked if they would sell it to us. On Sunday night he called me over and told me to take it. Saved me at least $30. The pigs love it it has two levels now they can play.

On Monday afternoon, I got the two pigs into the big cage, and the mom all by herself. By 8:00 monday night she had given birth to 4 beautiful healthy baby guinea pigs. They are sooooo cute!! Now I have to decide if we want to keep them, give them away, sell them or take them to a pet shop that will give free food, and supplied in exchange for the babies.

Point is ask and you shall receive! They were going to throw the pen away on Monday in the trash.

That's great that you got the cage for free.

I've been thinking about trying an experiment, maybe tonight. In the Tightwad she talks about free hot water by painting milk jugs black and sitting them in the sun. I have the jugs and paint, so may try that tonight and use the water for dish washing tommorow night.
