Oh leasmom-

I do have to sit here with red cheeks in my not so frugal past life, when we had more credit cards than sense... I bought my sister's first born son a Eddie Bauer car seat and yes, it was not cheap. But it matched their Eddie Bauer truck Geez, was I ever a air head back then!!! They are still using it for their daughter though.

Too bad I hadn't found this site back then.

Lee good job on the swingset and the bunk beds! I think we will be getting DD, a swingset as a combined gift for Easter and her birthday. And then some small stuff for each her birthday and Easter. As DD#2 will also use the swingset.

I would be real frugal and just have DD use the neighbors swingset, but, everytime I go outside, they push their daughter on me and go inside. and I am "stuck" watching their daughter and I would feel obligated since I would be using their swingset. I feel like such a louse!

I have not been real frugal lately. Just my ordinary, every day wash in cold water 1/2 the detergent. But, I am "Spring" cleaning. So I am washing curtains, and throw blankets, so I use the normal amt. of det and warm water for those, since they don't get washed often.

Osi, I think it was you that posted the website for Hillbilly Housewife? If so could you please post again or PM me with the URL? I would really appreciate it. Something was wrong with my computer so dH, erased the harddrive for me and I lost everything!

Jrztomato, enjoy your puppy, I love to hear people rescuing pets from the SPCA! I relucantly had to take a puppy to the SPCA once. But, she was such a great puppy, and she was adopted within a week. So, I am glad she got a good home!

On the milk the price of milk here is $3.19/gallon. I can get a box of powdered for $8.99 whcih makes 20 quarts. So that equals out to $1.80/gallon. So I have been mixing it half and half. Even if powdered would be a little more expensive it is still worth it. Because then I don't have to make an extra run to the store, as I can only fit 3 gallon in the fridge. But, with mixing it I boost that up to 6 gallons. Yes, we go through that much milk in a week. My teen son, and youngest DD are milkalohics! I am glad it is milk rather than soda! I have never found milk on sale.

Milk here is $2.68 a gallon, $1.99 a gallon at Aldi's!

Mom2-4

Here is the link to Hillbilly Housewife. Just linked in myself and noticed she has restructured her whole site, it's now called Hillbillyhousewife's Veggie Values with more vegan recipes. I'm off to explore her new format, be back soon.

Sink Cleaning

What product do you use to clean your sink? I have used ajax or comet all my life, but I have several spray cleaners such at Clorox & 409 that I would like to use up so I can start making my own cleaners. Will these sprays do as good a job? Do you use them in kitchen and/or bathroom? Right now I just use these cleaners on counters & such & don't use up very fast. Got them on sale with coupons, but much more than I need for just that.

MKS-

Formula 409 is great for cleaning everything including the kitchen sink. I truly understand what you mean about having too much... I have bottles of Fantastik all over the house, bottles and bottles of Murphy's Oil Soap, and 7 large bottles of dishwasher soap for the dishwasher I no longer use:p All bought with coupons and either free or 50 cents or less

Oh forgot to answer your question though: I generally use dish soap, just squirt, spray with water, scrub and rinse.

I have no idea how much this stuff cost anymore as I've been stocked up for about 2 years.

I had company all weekend so I could only get online for a few minutes at a time. I had DD pictures done on Saturday. The lady who done them was wonderful. I think we will have a hard time just getting the package. DD was just wonderful. Unlike DS who you have to drag in to the place every year. Really all I have been doing is the usual frugal stuff.

Cleaning sinks: I use Comet powder or just plain baking soda for the "everyday" sink cleaning. I have a white sink so it seems to look icky fast. But every couple of weeks I do a big clean: I fill it with HOT HOT HOT water and a little bleach. I let it sit at least 1/2 hour, then empty it out, give it a little scrub with a "scrubby" sponge, then rinse. At that point it's GORGEOUS

Today I went to the Asian grocery store and got a 25# sack of sweet rice (short grain, the sticky kind). It was $16 for the sack and that will keep us in rice for a good long time. I looked at the dollar store for some kind of trash can with lid or something to keep the rice sack in but no luck. I'll try at another store before I open this giant sack I keep a small amount in a Rubbermaid canister in the kitchen but that only holds 5#. I had been buying this rice in 5# bags but it's $4 for that bag, so I figure by buying the 25# I am getting the last 5# free

Margaret - I forgot to say congratulations on getting a dog! I'm sure you'll have fun with him. I've been amazed at how protective Gigi of me. I really enjoy her, and I've spoiled her a lot. She sleeps on the bed with us even though my dh had said no, he lets her. lol
