We canned: 12 qts. spaghetti sauce; 6 quarts tomato juice; 6 pints pickled beets--all with veggies from our garden! It will all taste SO good this winter.
Bought NICE socks for everyone at TJ Maxx--that would have been way too expensive normal price (nike, champion, etc.) brands. Hopefully they will last a while---boys/men are so hard on that stuff.
Rivermom - wow, that's great you were able to do all that canning and from your garden too!
Jayne - that's the way I've been lately too, and it's kind of fun! Besides, I can stretch my money more!
I've got Jeannie's blueberry muffins and barbecue cup meals in the freezer. I also froze a couple of uncooked biscuits, I wanted to see how it would work!

I've really enjoyed reading all the post from this weekend- I am so proud of all of you!!! You did so good being frugal!!!
I didn't seem to do much this weekend. Went fishing w/ dh yesterday morning, didn't catch much but a peaceful nap. Took my breakfast and lunch with me, so didn't have to buy anything but bait.
Washed and hung out clothes each day, have some on the line this am. The umbrella clothesline is not set well in the cement, it's kinda leaning sideways (hope it's not windy today). Dh will need to re cement it this coming weekend. I told him it might be better if we put the cement in a coffee can, dig the hole and put the coffee can in the hole? What a pain in the butt!
We cooked out yesterday pm cooked up a bunch of chicken breast. I had marinated them in homemade Italian dressing Sat. pm they were good. I intended to save some, seal in my sealer thing for this winter but dh ate too many-they were small. Will try again.
Tip: For those of you who still use charcoal to BBQ, here in Cols. the cheapest price on sale for 20 lbs. is around $5.00. Lowes has them regularly priced $3.99.

First of all, always use plastic gloves. If you don't have them, use plastic grocery bags. Just put your hand in and have someone knot it for you on each hand.
For contact w/them. Wash your hands with vinegar. I too got them in my "soft contact lenses". Rinse contacts in vinegar, then water. It really does work.
Another tip: When cutting up onions, use ski goggles. You may look funny but they do stop your eyes from watering.:p

I was fairly frugal this weekend, went grocery shopping 3 different stores within 1/2 mile of each other used my coupons. I made chili and cornbread for dinner which in reality I think is a frugal meal. I also made a large batch of spagetti sauce from a recipe here on family corner. I didnt eat any yet though as I didnt finish it until late last night.Plus I made meatballs to go with now I did try one of those yummy. I also baked brownies so my oven was quite busy! Today I have drs appointment and hope to stop at the entemens outlet on the way home. Will let you know if I find any good deals. Last time I got all kinds of Thomas english muffins at a great price compared to what you pay in a grocery store. Ds loves them with butter, peanut butter and quick lunch pizzas so they come in handy. well gotta run. Have a good day everyone..

Those darn Browns!!!
Bye all
Leighann
We just pull them up, wash them, cut off stems, boil them up, peel, cook the "brine" and process!!
Looking at the tomato juice sitting on the counter from yesterday--all sealed (yeah!) and wanting to open one, but wanting to save them for this winter too!
Duh! Monday morning--Here are 2 different recipes--we used the top one this time.
Beet Pickles (Makes 3 1/2 qts.-but we use pint jars since we don't eat THAT many at one time)
2 c. sugar
2 c. vinegar
2 c. water
1 t. allspice
1 t. cloves
1 stick cinnamon (we used powdered--since no sticks)
Simmer 5 mins. & pour over beets packed in jars.
Pickled Beets
1 gal. small beets
1 t. salt
2 sticks cinnamon/ 1 T. powdered
2-3 c. vinegar
2 c. sugar
1 T. allspice
2 c. water
Wash & drain beets, cover with boiling water. Cook till tender. Remove skins. If beets are large, cut into slices or quarters. Heat liquid to boiling & pour over beets & seal. Process in boiling water bath 30 mins.
Dh & I went to my favorite thrift store Sat. and for $20.00 got:
Craftsman Lawn & Garden Edger $8.00
7 William Sonoma Dishes $5.00 (Blue Plate Special ware)
Box of hardbound Cookbooks & Mysteries $2.00
New Cooler $3.00
Donated $2.00 to the Kitty jar (non taxable donation).
