Leasmom - I'm glad you found something for your hands, that was clever!

That's one of two of my mom's cures for everything!
Rubbing Alcohol and Vinegar cures everything, according to her! Gargling with Vinegar, salt and water cures pregnancy, sore throats and pneumonia!
I know your thinking-WHAT? But, there's a funny story attached to that. I thought at one point after I had dd that I was pregnant. My mother visiting told me to gargle. She said, sometimes infection from your throat goes down to your stomach and makes you feel pregnant so, go gargle! We still laugh about that one to this day! Another situation is when I returned from Africa-(yes Africa)-our highschool trip and instead of taking me to the hospital for 2 wks while I lost weight, couldn't eat because I arrived back in Detroit without a single coat, just thin clothes...she made me gargle and gargle until I recovered! I'm not sure if it was close to pneumonia but I was horribly sick! My mom never believed in doctors, she believed in rubbing alcohol and vinegar!
Just returned home from Winn Dixie.....yes it's 11:40.....
They have triple c/o's this week. Got liquid Joy dish soap for .29 a bottle, and Dawn for .49....also stocked up on Electrasol for the dishwasher...after the sale price of 3.00, and triple .50 c/o...they were $1.50 for the big box. That should last me for a long while, I just finished up a small box that I bought on Memorial Day weekend!

My mom and dad used to make me gargle with salt water when I would have tonsilitis or even just a sore throat. I hated it, but knew it would help. My 17 yo dd has been miserable this week, I think I had better get her going this morning with it.
20 yo dd read or heard a hint, that I thought was fun. She just filled the pickle jar with carrots, celery and green onions. Since she just did this yesterday, we will have to wait a couple of days to see how they taste and if we will do this again. One of the guys I work with does this with boiled eggs, and shares them with people he knows will like and eat them.
Leasmom - rubbing alcohol and vinegar cure anything - I like that! Did you see My Big Fat Greek Wedding? The dad on that movie said Windex cured things, zits, rashes etc!
Bettdev - good shopping!
Momofjems - my parents always made me gargle with salt water too! I hated that stuff, but I always do it now when I get a sore throat. A hot water bottle on the tummy helps for cramps. I usually lay on it and watch a movie in my room when I get really bad cramps. They actually sell a thermal pad for cramps now. A hot water bottle, or one of those rice bags would be cheaper.

Thanks for reminding me about the rice bag! I gotta make a new one!

Good morning everyone. Great news, we found a cheaper place to rent. Only $550.00 a month. This will really help out. Since DH is going to school and working part time. Now we will not have to worry about the bill and other things. Things were getting tight. But now it is going to be better. And we have the whole month to move in. So no rushing. Have a wonderful day all.

I actually did open that closest yesterday and I was trying to hurry and go through the stuff quickly, but that didn't happen esp. with dd who wants desperately to be a packrat-(I am trying hard to get her to throw things out...not to be like my mom who has 129 boxes she finally put into storage of useless things like my nieces first dollar store plastic baby tub-LOL!!!). So, first we had to finally put up the videos. Then we went through dd's winter clothes to see what she could fit. Fortunately she can fit everything, including the coat. I always by big but at the rate dd is growing I wasn't sure!
Then I finally tackled THE PICTURE TUB-(sound of horror music playing)!!! That took several hours because dd was attached to every little piece of art work she had ever done and I just wanted to pick out a few pieces and throw the rest away. I had saved all this stuff and didn't have any more room for anything! I also finally took all the loose pictures and put them in a box and grouped the giant picture envelopes together and then put it back into the closest. Now, I'll I have to do is take our winter clothes up stairs and put them in our closests/dressers.
We finally finished at 1:00 am. Thank goodness it wasn't a school night and we didn't even notice how much time had passed, I just knew I was dead tired!!!
Today, I have to go get my niece a Halloween costume at the Goodwill and take dd to her free Tae Kwan Doe lessons. I have to go through my grocery list. This is the first time that it's grocery time and I don't have room in the freezer or fridge for much, not even on the shelf. So, I will buy the bulk items, a few other items because of the 10 for $10 sale, and some fresh veggies and just shop when I need too. Trust me, this has never happened before. My fridge usually looks empty for a long time before I go grocery shopping, so this is great!!!
Oh, and congrats on the place! I know how it feels to be squeezed!!!
* The usual daily laundry/dishes/housework/menu planning and organizing rituals
* Sliced and froze 6 peaches (filled gallon bag) for cobblers & smoothies (will purchase more to add to this)
* After making beef stroganoff with merlot (and having some with dinner), froze the remainder in ice-cube trays for future recipes. ¼ cup = 2 cubes.
* Spent a little less time on-line so I can cook more new recipes (using up stocked supplies) and enjoy being with dh. (health is improved - was able to work more and go out more!)
* Perused supermarket flyers for loss leaders, made shopping list, coordinated coupons
* Shopped loss leaders Thursday and took advantage of triple coupons AGAIN at Winn Dixie. Food Lion had sale (.40 each) on canned beans. Stocked up (also have dry beans, which are always a better deal). Good job Bettdev, with the sales and triple coupons at Winn Dixie!
* Reluctantly shopping around for a used minivan to replace current car which is too hard on my back. Seat is VERY comfortable (with electric lumbar support), but ride is too rough.
Help! I have some pickle juice leftover from bread 'n' butter pickles. I'm sure I saw a tip for how to use this. Is it used to pickle other things, like more cukes? And then perhaps to flavor some things??? Thought I just saw that someone is trying to pickle carrots, celery and green onions...

Happypuppy, good to hear from you. I'm going to have to reccomend a Honda Odyssey. It may not seem frugal, but Honda's have extreamly low mantainance costs. However, we started out looking at used & went with new, because they really do hold their resale value...meaning the used ones in our area were not much less than the new. Also, they have a quadruple 5 star saftey rating & get better gas milage than most minivans. Of course, I don't know how it will feel to you (ie.rough ride,) but it does have two thingies to ajust the seat. Just a thought.
