My Frugal thing today has just been staying home!
I finished canning all the fresh Tuna DH brought home. Ended up doine 42 pints of it....so we have Tuna for quite awhile!
In regards to potty training, I had a couple of games that worked very well with my 2 boys.....
One is to use Cheerios.....yes the cereal!
The boys would be encouraged to have "Target" practice and sink 'em....I know this sounds silly, but they enjoyed it and it works!
The other is to put a small amount of liquid dish soap and a small amount of water in the potty.....this way they can make "bubbles" when they go.
Aside from that a "goodie jar" of M & M's were there and when they "went" it would result in one candy and a story when successful....I had the "potty" in the living room and just had them wear "big boy" undies, and eventually moved the potty further and further out until it was in the bathroom.
Hope these will help....potty training can be a very trying time for you and the lil one....make the best and use positive reinforcement, and both of your efforts will go far!
Have a great day everyone!
Janet

Jdd- I loved the idea of bubbles in the potty, will definitely have to pass that one on to my sister. I can see where that would appeal. I have heard of the cheerios one before too.

Thanks for all the ideas regarding potty training. I am using the m and m system. I love the bubbles and cheerios idea as well. His dad will like that. The no more diapers is a good one too!

Anna,
Its cold and cloudy here in Cleveland I guess its our turn to drive to Columbus...Though they say the rest of weekend is supposed to be beautiful.

Today I am off to find some cheap checks to order on the internet running low...

Leasmom,
I also want to get christmas shopping done early this year, right now bringing in extra money but you know it may not last!

Jeannie's White Mountain Bread:

In a bowl or container:
3 cups of King Arthur all purpose flour
mixed with the following...
1/2 cup Carnation low fat powdered milk
1T sugar
1 1/4 t salt
2 teaspoons instant yeast (I use SAF Perfect Rise)
set aside

4 T butter, melted and cooled

In a 2 cup measure mix 1 whole egg with enough milk to measure 2/3 of a cup, then add 1/2 cup hot water and the cooled butter.
Mix....

For Bread Machine:
In the dough bucket of your bread machine, put in all the liquid, add all the dry ingredients, and set your bread machine to "Dough" setting.......when it's finished kneading, reset your machine to have it go through the dough keading cycle again, and this time let it rise in the machine.

Remove from the dough bucket, spinkle a little flour on your board, and shape into a loaf to fit an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 inch greased bread pan. I then put it in my microwave to rise for 45-55 min.
( I find the microwave a good place, I don't have to cover the dough...)

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 22-25 min, or to internal
temperature of 190 degrees. Remove from pan, place on a rack, sprinkle with a pinch or two of flour and let cool.

MIXER:
If using a mixer, put the liquid ingredients, followed by the dry
ingredients, and mix with a dough hook until smooth and satiny about 15-30 min, depending on your machine.

Transfer dough to a lightly greased bowl and let rise as above, and proceed as above.

BY HAND:
Reserve 1/2 cup of the flour to use on your board....
put all the dry ingredients on your board, make a well in the center and add the wet ingredients. Mix and knead until smooth and satiny.. then transfer to a greased bowl...and continue as above...

I have not made this bread bake in bread machine as of yet.

For dinner today I'm making the meatball sub casserole, so I'm making the french bread from scratch. I know, it doesn't save much, but it's over a buck for a loaf of french bread. I got the cookies done for the parade tomorrow, and the clothes are on the line. I bought 3 cases (24 cans in a case) of vegges, corn, cream corn and green beans. $6 a case. That should last me for a while.

Nagymom-

Thank you! Thank you! I will check out that site when I have a little more time.

Any suggestions on successfully slicing the bread? How does everybody do it with homemade bread? (I'm a rookie, can you tell?)

Tami - I always lay the bread on it's side to slice it. It just seems easier to me, and doesn't seem to squish the bread as much. Use a serrated knife too, that's a must for bread. My mom always slices all the bread when it cools, then she puts them into bags and freezes. I just slice the bread as I need it, I think it stays fresh longer that way.

Serrated knife works best for slicing

Of course I always slice it right from the oven and it just doesn't work as well when I don't wait.

Well, took dd to her psychiatrist across town for only a 30 minutes session-(she missed school for that!)-dd is bipolar/adhd. Then we hit the Goodwill. First thing I saw was 3 racks of Halloween costumes. I got dd what she wanted: 1 really cool witches dress for $2 and the witches wig for $1. Then I got me two t-shirts-(I DESPRETATELY NEEDED CLOTHES)-they were plus size at that and it was $1.50 for each. Plus size thats a good deal cause you can never find plus size at most Thrift Stores!

Last year I got her the Barbie Fifties Halloween outfit for $3. So to get the outfit and hair for $3 is a good deal!

I'm off to get dd's prescription and grab up the $3 for $1 canned biscuits again to make more cup meals. I'm having beef tacos tonight so I'll use that for leftovers. I have alot to do, not sure if I can do it all today. I've got to roast the green chiles, peel and chop them. Then I have to cook dinner and make cup meals, and open the closest door??? We'll see...

Leasmom - good job on the goodwill finds! I wear a plus size, and I know those are hard to come by at a second hand store! That's great you've got your daughters Halloween costume already. I think my dd is going to be a ballerina, she can wear her tuttu from her last competition, and ds is going to be Harry Potter again, unless he changes his mind!
