Leasmom,
Good for your sister! Didnt you say your Bil came home a couple of weeks ago? Maybe if he has seen how bad he left them he wont do it again?

Well the Discovery Toys now that I have seen a show is pretty good. They do have some educational games that actually seem like they would be fun. Have not gotten the final numbers yet but I sure hope I get at least 1 free item. Dh and Ds showed up back home before party was over. Ds was soooooooo excited at all these toys in his house. He had a difficult time saying goodbye to all those toys!

Train,
Welcome to the thread!

I cant believe your inlaws said that to you about your eleltric bill! Sounds like something one of my grandmas would say. My brother owed her money for help on a couple of his car payments when he was going through a rough time. Anyway that year for xmas and his birthday all he got was a receipt taking 25.00 off of what she owed him. Thats grams!

Emalee wishing Gabby well. Does your dd understand anything going on with her? Poor thing!

I don't know about now but my DH was in the forst Gulf War. There was a commisary(sp?). And I think he said a bar. And a lot of our money went into the phone booths. LOL. I remember getting a phone bill by fedex. The phone company really want us to get that months bill. Boy was that unfrugal. We had been married 2 1/2 months went his ship got orders to the gulf. I still get shivers thinking about it.

Ok.lets see if im awake enough to reply to everyone i want to...lol

train welcome to our thread. i keep learing alot of things that are good here. hope you enjoy this thread as much as i do.

leas.thats great about your sister.ive had...ummm...extra intervention a couple times when ive needed it. i always said it was my grandma looking out for me after she died. she would have done anything to help me. so when i have a huge problem, after i pray to god..i pray to her. well..more like talking to her, and usually i get what i need..altho..neither of them will let me win the lottery for a good 20 or 30 million.lol.

mom24....could you make a denim comfortor with the denim turned inside out? or since you have kids...are they little enough to need a closet or door organizer made out of pockets..on opened legs of the jeans to put things in? you could sew more pockets on them, and even decorate with fabric paint or something for little girls. i hve a really cool door organizer in my bathroom over the door that holds my extra shampoos and things.

emmjean..i will say prayers for little gabby. i have daughters close to that age. 5 and 7 and i shudder to think of having that happen to them.

yesterday..i finished my kids xmas shopping. i still have to get things from layaway. but im done. so thats good. plus a friend of ours had her furnace blower go out in her trailer. we had the old frunace in our other trailer. so i told her dad to come see if it would work for her. he asked how much we needed out of it wehn he said it would i told him it was ok..wouldnt work in here anyway, and we are friends.
she called later and had me come by. she sells mk and home and garden things. she gave me a mk double lipgloss with volicty calogne at either end that id been wanting, that sells for 20, too rich for my blood..lol and 2 candles. that sell for 6 each. thoes are things id been wanting to get..but just didnt have the extra cash for that..and she gave them to me for taht blower i ddint need anymore..im soo happy. and shes warm.

well thats all so far today. il be back later. and check in.

talk at you all later.

Ericka - that was so nice that your friend gave you things that you've been wanting for the blower. Trades can be a good thing!

Mom 2-4 - I covered old notebooks with my dh old jeans, you could probably do the same thing, just turn them inside out. I've been wanting to cover shoe boxes too, I think they'd make fun gift boxes. My dh started getting his jeans at Costco, they're a little roomier and only $12.99. They seem to be really good denim, and are holding up really well.

Emmjean - I'll keep Gabby in my prayers.

Train - welcome to the thread! We all have our own frugal ways that work for us, and sometimes we can learn something new. It's good to have you here, the more the merrier!

Leasmom - that is so nice that someone helped out your sister. It's really wonderful to see how caring people can be.

I've got more sewing to do today, I'm so tickled to see the dress and slip on a hanger! They just need buttons and button holes.

Carol

Believe it or not,

he claims he doesn't remember what all he spent the money on. He spent it on dvd's, a digital camera...my question, what would you be taking pictures of in Iraq?, and he has no ideal what else. My sister has been dealing with his spend-thriftyness for a long time. Yes, he came home and they had to hock some stuff for money, she just had to do that the other day. Yes, when he came back, he got to see that they had no money, but it wasn't until he went back did she get a bill or letter saying that after all the money she had paid for his bills, and all the money taken out already, she still had nearly $2,000 left to pay and it was coming out of both of December's checks. So, she wouldn't have any money left for their Christmas. She said it hurt him dearly to hear that. So, she was going to do like she usually does, pay some, skimp on the rest and hope to goodness nothing gets turned off. But, now though she still won't have any money out of her check, this surprised check helped to give her kids the Christmas they deserve and she deserves.

She and I are going to Sam's Club today to get a few items she couldn't get at the Army's Commissary. This is my first time at Sam's Club! Then she'll go get the kids gifts at Walmart. She's still in shock, she just knew she wouldn't be able to get them nothing so she is still surprised that she now can!!!

My friend picked up my packages this am..so I saved on gas going down to ship them....
My dd(Holly) told me to take $300 of the money I had that was hers( and didn't need to use for her)
and pay for my airline tickets(204) and use the rest on warm clothes for up north.....Each year when I go up I usually have a problem with hoping things will fit from the year before but this year it was a good problem because I dropped 27#s since my by-pass...but...nothing fits...and if I can help it they never will So from my side that is a big savings......
Other than that ...I am staying in...trying on clothes and seeing what I can size down...I am not the greatest seamtress but am sure going to try before I give them away....

Lee ~

I used to sell Discovery Toys (for about 2 weeks - long story!). I still have several of their toys that are for "babies" or toddlers that even my 13 yo ds plays with (but hates to get caught at it). My kids all loved the Hide Inside and the Strike a Ball (I think it's called something else now). The Boomering Links are invaluable! We have "locked" many a door with these (they work better than any child safety locks we have gotten) and they are also good for attaching toys to the carseat, walker, crib, etc. We even used them as a seat belt in high chairs and shopping carts when they were too little for the regular seat belt, but too big for the baby high chairs/shopping carts. None of their toys or computer games are cheep, but they are good and are supposed to have a lifetime guarantee.

jrztomato-

Congrats on the weight loss, that's about what I lost in a year so I know that is very substantial, about 2-3 clothes sizes different... makes you feel good, doesn't it.

Little Gabby will be in my thoughts and prayers too. What is wrong with her that caused this?

Anna

Yes my consultant said they have a lifetime guarantee. I have the Boomerang links they are great, but I got at a garage sale! Ds still plays with those too, sometimes he makes them pretend food!
Anna,
How is the snow in Columbus Today? It is coming down pretty good here and how about you Vj? I think between the 3 of us we pretty much cover a good portion of the state.
My frugal thing for today will be going to best cuts for a hair trim, I used to pay 30.00 but I got more compliments on my 10.95 hair cut! My hair seems to be growing soooo fast, it must be my pre-natal pills!

I went to Rocky Mount with middle dd to buy a gift certificate. I'm borrowing Anna's fabulous idea of dinner and a movie for part of dh's Christmas so bought one to the new Fargo Cattle Co. Steak House down there and will get gc's to Blockbuster to go with it. I DON'T do movie theaters. I am a JERK magnet in the movie theater and since I'll no doubt be accompanying him when he uses the gc's I'm going with Blockbuster. It smelled so fabulous while there that we decided to have lunch. Other than that and buying the certificate though, I didn't spend any moeny and we even visited Target and Tuesday Morning! :p
