Leasmom--if it's any consolation, my oldest dgd was lost BY THE SCHOOL on her first day of Kindergarten! The teacher put her on a bus after I had sent a note saying that I was picking her up the first day. I panicked big time when no one could find her. The assistanct principal got snotty with me and told me to calm down--I never liked that woman from that day forward. How dare she imply I shouldn't be upset--they had LOST my grandchild! They did finally find her on a bus, sitting with a little hispanic boy who didn't speak English and Alexis didn't hear her name being called. That should have been a tip-off to me that this school wasn't going to be the great example so many told us it would be. Long story, glad we're gone, lousy teachers. What made it interesting was the principal was our neighbor, lived right across the street from us.

As far as the dr's nurse, were it ME I'd call the doctor and lodge a complaint. She has NO right to talk to you like that. She doesn't know your daily life and she should never stand in judgement of a parent until she walks in their shoes. Her job is to help, not belittle.

As far as SCHOOL, if they don't send a calendar home then TELL them they need to. Even the losuy school where we used to live did that.

Frugal for yesterday--ALL the kids and grandkids were at their homes yesterday so dh and I had an entire evening to ourselves. We stayed home and grilled steaks rather than go out. We eat out enough that it's not really a treat and besides those steaks were wonderful. They've been sitting in the freezer (bought reduced even) waiting for just such an opportunity.

One more frugal thing for today! The handle on my Maytag dishwasher broke yesterday. No warning, just collapsed on me as I opened it. Dh got the paperwork out last night and we bought it Oct. 25 last year. It has a 1 year warranty so it's still covered by 5 days! I'm calling them in a few minutes to arrange a repair--guess the Maytag repairman they send won't be so lonely now.

Thanks everyone...they did send home a calender

but the last two half days/no school aren't scheduled on the calender, they have popped these up on us.

This morning I'm going to go talk with dd's teacher who I heard complaining because I came looking for her...that's not why I'm going to see her but to explain that dd will be called down daily except Friday where she will need to remind dd that she is to wait for me to pick her up in the office.

Then I'm coming back and calling to complain about that nurse. If on Thursday I get another snotty comment or dumb advice from dd's ditzy therapist, I'll be switching her as well, the doctor too if I have too, I've done it before! What's bad is that there isn't any other choices here in Pueblo for care...

Today's frugality...eat breakfast at home, bring lunch if I can find something...if not, buy $1 menu.

I should have known it wouldn't be easy

What fun it is living in Hooterville. The good news. Maytag is wonderful to work with and referred me to a repair place in Rocky Mount but as it turns out, they won't come this far (30 to 45 minutes). Another call to Maytag. We live in a small town and when these few places we have hear warranty work they say, "We'll call you back" then never do so they looked in Virginia, 20 minutes up the road and found one. What a nice man--they're coming today to fix it! I don't feel even remotely bad about by-passing local help. They are the reason we replaced the old one anyway-- NO ONE would come look at the old one for our home warranty people, AHS, a fantastic warranty company. When we replaced we went to Rocky Mount to do it--no way were we spending money with the very people who refused to help us. This is being done under Maytag's warranty though since it still has 5 days. . We have an AHS certificate for a free visit (for referring oldest dd to them) so will contnue to hang on to that until another appliance/household problem comes along. :p

Leasmom,
So sorry to hear of your problems with dd. I cant imagine going through that being a single mom at that. Your doing the best you can!
Jayne,
Glad to hear you still can get your dishwasher fixed, what great timing with only 5 days left on that warranty!
Anna,
Glad your seller is willing to work with you on the Buckeye situation.
when you were talking about gambling on the net we had a friend that got addicted no one realized how bad it was. He commited suicide over extreme debt. It was horrible he was the person that introduced dh and I. Meant a lot to us my dh will not forgive him. I hope someday he does! He even was able to hide it from his wife. How I dont know but he was!
Frugal for tonight is going to Walgreens picking up perscription and a few sale items. (cough drops, 2 liter coke, Orville Redenbocker popcorn ) I make mine in the air popper but dh wont convert so I still have to buy him microwave corn. Keep trying to explain mine is cheaper and better for you! He just wont listen. lol. Have a good one.

Mmm frugal today is, going to Wal*Mart to find a jacket pattern. I have some fabric that was given to me and I want to make jackets for my mom and my mil for Christmas, so except for the pattern I'll have two presents for free!

Jayne - wow, that was lucky getting your dishwasher fixed before the warranty was out. What luck!

Anna - good luck with the buckeyes. I bet they'll be fine this time.

Leighann-

That is too weird about your friend committing suicide over gambling on the net, we had the exact same thing happen here at work to one of our accounting assistants! His name was Jason. Very young and in college studying accounting. His current girlfriend worked here too. I can understand your husbands anger, suicide is such a bad way of opting out, so many unanswered questions and so final.

I just got this in an email -

I just found a great tip for a fat-free alternative to cream based soups! In
a recipe that serves 4, substitute 3/4 cup mashed potatoes (whipped with
fat-free chicken stock) and 1/2 cup fat-free sour cream. Just wisk the
potatoes into the soup in the last 5 minutes of cooking. Then wisk in the
sour cream at the end. I just made a creamy mushroom soup that turned out
FABULOUS! You would never know it was fat-free!

This sounds really good, I can't wait to try it!

Shopped loss leaders at Winn Dixie this week:

Bought 8 racks of babyback ribs on sale for $2.99/lb. Asked for 2 frozen pkgs from the back to keep frozen for later. And bought 4 salmon filets (about 11lbs) on sale for $3.99/lb, cut into individual servings to freeze. Yum!

3 cantaloupes .99 each
2 lbs green beans .89/lb
16oz light sour cream .99
bananas were .25/lb
5-16oz jars Smucker's All Natural peanut butter $1.69 each (reg. $2.69) (we will soon smell Splenda-sweetened peanut butter cookies in the oven!)

God bless...

Songberries & Happypuppy-

Good going on finding those healthier choice recipes/substitutions. I love cream of mushroom soup and of course, it would be almost unamerican to not love peanut butter cookies. YUM! I've just been sitting here at my desk sewing dammit dolls and of course, answering the phones (I LOVE MY JOB!). They are so nice to me, of course their former receptionist were terrible so they appreciate me more. One was really mean to everybody (a real grouch), the other one just never showed up for work half the time, no call in no notice zip. We don't have alot of traffic, when we do of course I put my stuff aside. I can't wait to get better acquainted with my sewing machine though so I can really zip through these dolls. My goal is to have 180 done by spring.
