Because he killed the Arawak Indians because they couldn't find a hawk's bell full of gold for him, because alot of women died after being raped by his men...and because of the destruction of thousands of Indian nations...that's why I call it Murder's Day and don't celebrate Columbus Day at all!
o.k. I'm not real up on this part of history, we don't celebrate it just because I think it's kind of a dumb holiday that only gov't. workers get off, all us regular folks still have to work. Same with Washington's birthday and ground hogs day!
Before anybody gets the wrong idea, gov't workers don't get ground hogs day off, although my friends in gov't sure looked at their calendars when I mentioned it. :p
One nice thing though coming to work this morning, no traffic!
We have alot of gov't. workers here in Franklin County.

Finally back, recouped and enjoying the fall weather.
Had a great time in Minot ND, although it is a lot of work to setup, sell, then dismantle and box all remaining antique/flea market items, it was profitable. Met some nice folks who were also selling, is fun to see what others collect/sell.
My frugal tasks for today are: Made a large kettle of chilli soup , soaking the beans last night, baked a batch of low sugar choc chip cookies, thawed out some french bread to go with the chilli soup.
Used some of the tomatoes I had picked green awhile back that have now turned red and a very good, used them in the soup.
When you gals mentioned not honoring certain holidays, I don't honor Halloween. Don't feel our children need to be dressed as devils etc, does anyone else use costumes that have a religious theme instead?
Glad to be back on here, but have some catching up reading all the past posts.

I completely agree with you on this one!!! I even teased my kids when they asked what they have off for I told them that the teachers just get tired of the kids, so they get a day off!!!

When I was young, I always said I wanted to be someone...I guess I should have been more specific!
I celebrate Halloween, from the first Halloween until the kids are past the age of trick-or-treating (13). I have them dress as things such as scarecrow, clown, puppy, bunny, cat, cheerleader. I do allow ghost, and one year a witch. Then when they turn 13 it is up to them what they want to dress as. I do not shun the holiday at all!!! I feel as though it is only bad if it is treated that way!!!

i did get my old oven to work in the new trailer. i scrubbed it and worked on it so i could use it. i just told joe to keep our other one at the other trailer so if i have a problem, ive got one. sigh. now if i can just get my fridge moved over. the only problemwith the stove thats in here..its alvacodo green. i can deal with that tho, ill just add green to my roosters theam and let it all go. lol.
right now, i have to go over and dismantle our full size bed for my ds to have in his room. he wants it and will use it untill i get him a diffrent one.unless he just keepsthis one. plus, my bil gave him a floor modle 25" tv last night. so we played muscial tvs again. i took the 9"in his room out, for the girls, took my old 19" from them and put it in our room. everyone is happy. lol. somethimes its good to have bil...sometimes... hes coming by later today to work on my dryer too. so keep your fingers crossed its not a huge problem, only an easyone. bobbys pretty smart tho, so im sure hes gonna get it fixed just fine. at least i hope so.
ok its all looking up now. everyone have a good day.

I'm in total agreement Karen. I've had people ask me how, as a Christian I allowed my kids and now grandkids to observe Halloween. It's FUN for them. They are not eveil little beings and you know what? ANY day can be made into something evil. In my sincere opinion it's only evil if you make it so. MY kids and all kids I've ever known just had fun with it and loved cleaning up on candy.

Here's a link if you'd like to research the history of Columbus
I did alot of researching as a kid of Columbus. I grew up in the Indian community of Detroit and lived on reservations and even attended an all Indian college when I was 18. I was put out of highschool for caring a sign of Columbus Kills-LOL!
