What Did You Do Frugal Today~July 2012

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.

Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

What Did YOU Do Frugal Today?

I'm so sorry to hear of Missi's passing.

Anna, On the dates of the posts have always said "today", "yesterday" then day 3 would have a date. Though maybe it's different if you are a moderator.

I can't believe how warm it is even at 10:30 at night it is still 80 out. I really dread getting the utility bill but it is better than the alternative of no electric.

JoAnne, I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you hugs.

DH went for his physical today and found out he may have diabetes. His blood sugar was higher than it should be. They drew another sample today, but he did not fast for it. The doctor told him he does not want to put him on meds yet. He is giving him a month to try to improve his blood sugar through diet and exercise. So, there will be some changes around here. I think it will be a good thing, though. We both need to lose some weight.

I'm off to bed. Good night, ladies. I hope you all sleep well.

Thought I would check in before going to bed. Cheryl, we did have a terrible storm last night with lots of massive lightening and good size hail. We lost our power this morning early and it came back on this evening. I think it was off 9 or more hours all together.

JoAnne, I am truely sorry for the loss of your Missi. Tell your dh I am so sorry for him too. So many of us on here just love our animals so much and know if we lost them we would be so hurt over it. I hope both of you take comfort in knowing how good your were to her and that she knew she was so loved in her life.

Jacki, sending your big hugs and know I am thinking of you all.

My only frugal today was getting a free gallon of milk. Well its nearly 1am so I had better close. Have a peaceful night everyone.

Good morning all!!

JoAnn, I am so sorry for your loss. I know Missi meant the world to you both. I, too, am in tears for her passing.

Anna, glad you were able to get on last night at all. I am happy to help whenever I can.

Kathy, I am sorry to hear about your dh's possible diagnosis. The diet changes are not as drastic as you might think. Google "diabetes" and you will find tons of info, and tons of recipes. There are places that are happy to send you paper mini cookbooks too with lots of helpful tips. And with all the great tasting sugar subs, lots of desserts are also possible when sugarfree pudding and jello just don't satisfy. And if he is diagnosed, you might have to figure out, by trial and error, what turns up his numbers. My sister's next door neighbor goes bizzerk with mashed potatoes, which he dearly loves.

Jean, you did better than I, I didn't get anything free yesterday. Way to go.

Ladies, better go for now. I have to get ready for work. We have a short meeting with our most difficult department. It should be interesting to say the least.

Take care all!! Norma

Anna so glad to see your posts again. You have been missed.
Joann so so sorry to hear about Missi. Sending you hugs.
Kathy hoping all goes well with your dh. How is the new house coming along?
Don't plan on doing much today. I may run to Aldi for a few things. Haven't decided yet.
I need to clean the fridge out. It is one of those jobs that I just hate.
It feels a bit cooler here.
Everyone stay cool!

ANNA- glad you are back. We missed you. Truly felt so sorry for you through such terribly hot times.
I hope you kept an inventory of your food loss to turn into insurance. Ours doesn't use deductable for food loss.

KATHY - My dh was diagnosed border line diabetic over a year ago. Diet has really helped lower his numbers. Like Norma said - not drastic changes. Dr. hoping dh won't have to do meds. There are pills you can take, instead of shots if not extreme. Good luck to him.

JOANNe - I couldn't get you off my mind last night. I cried when I read your post. HUGS

Just wanted to say good morning. Going to be a hot one again.
Take care dear friends.

Quiet morning on here.

TODAY - 2 loads of laundry (including cloth shower curtain). Line drying. Emptied dehumidifier and watered plants out front with it. Watered everything else too.
Turned AC off for a couple hours to give it a rest. Took the trash out.

I picked more veggies from the garden.
Made a qt. and 1/2 of fresh veggies with left over refrigerated garden medley juice. Heated to boiling and poured over some fresh veggies. After a couple days it will make a nice treat for dh some evening.

Dh had the leftover pasta salad I made over the weekend. Added a few more fresh veggies to it. Not sure what I will eat.

Got the water bill today - hmmmmm $22 - REALLY???? Another estimate. Dh paid $40. We are on the budget plan for elec. and gas. - so elec bill will stay the same. I'm afraid we will have an overage at the end of season.

Off to eat a bit of lunch - then we'll see what else I need to do.
Have a good day.

hi everyone,
You are all so lovely, thank you for your words about Missi, we will miss her terribly, she was such a sweet girl, we really loved her since she was 7 weeks old.
Glad to see you back on here Anna, much to long to be without hydro for sure. Just thinking about all of the things we couldn't do without electricity. A good thing you were prepared for such a thing.
Sorry to hear about the diabetes diagnosis, sure hope it turns out to be minimum.
