For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources.
Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"
What did YOU do frugal today?

Happy New Year. I hope everyone has a wonderful frugal year.
The girls and I went to the Disney on Ice show in Philly today. I had free tickets and a free parking pass. We met Stephanie's boyfriend and mother there. Stephanie is staying at there house over night and going to the Mummers Parade tomorrow morning. Then I took Tara back to her apartment at college. She has to work tomorrow.
Dh and I had a seafood dinner tonight. I made lobster tails, mussels and stuffed clams. Now we are heading to a friends house for a little while. We are taking deer ring bologna and cheese with.
NORMA - sorry your sister is so sick. Sorry to hear you are coming down with it as well. What a way to start the year. Take care and get plenty of rest the next couple days.
JOANNE - Ghost is probably my 2nd favorite movie ever. I have seen every movie he was ever in. I just think Dirty Dancing and Ghost were both incredibly sexy!
Sounds like everyone is ready for the new year.
FRUGAL today - went to PO first thing. Filled the squirrel and bird feeders and of coarse fed all the kitties.
Scrubbed the litter boxes, then took that and trash out to bin.
Finished wrapping the gifts for tomorrow. Straightened up the FR in basement a bit.
Mopped the floor. It is so muddy out, no matter how careful you are, the floor needs mopped daily.
Cooked my corned beef brisket today. I do it in the crockpot, and I need the crockpot pot tomorrow for BBQ wienies. (I only have 1 crockpot)
Made a batch of brownies for tomorrow. Got hot dogs out of freezer (I will cut in 3rds) and have BBQ sauce on hand.
I think I am ready for the kids. I just need to vacuum in the morning and make up my food trays.
We will have corned beef and cabbage and black eyed peas for dinner tomorrow evening. The kids don't like it, so we will eat that after they leave. I have had that meal for New Year's my entire life!!
Monday we will have rueben sandwiches with leftover meat! YUM
I'm sure I'll probably be asleep by midnight. I usually am.
Stay in, stay warm, and stay safe!!!!
I called my friends at noon, and they have canceled tonight. I am not at all unhappy. With Rick still recovering from his appendectomy and Mary being sick, I was actually hoping they wouldn't try to gut it out. I have been drinking copious amounts of tea all day, and now have switched to water. I have been really good today, no sneezing like at work, no coughing or being really stopped up.
I called my sister - she is going to church at midnight - doesn't matter that she is doing up to 4 nebulizer treatments a day to stay ahead of bronchitis. So I wished her well.
I hope everyone going out tonight gets home safely. I hope everyone enjoys their plans. Mine are to be in bed, sleeping.
Its hard to believe we only have hours left in 2011. I hope each of you have a wonderful new year and that many blessings come your way.
Norma take care and I hope you don't end up feeling too bad.
Charlotte, sounds like you and the girls had a good day and it was good that it was free even the parking.
Cheryl, I hope you and your family have a great time tomorrow. I just copied down that recipe for the harvest potatoes because I hope to try them soon.
Anna, I am like you and David I don't even want to be out tonight. I am sure the police will be busy tonight.
Today I have stayed home and cooked some. Yds and I watched a Hokies basketball game earlier. My other sister called and I talked to her for a long time. Yesterday I made a new to me recipe it was eclair cake. All of us thought it was good but I will add more graham crackers if I make it again. I made some of the ritz crackers with almond bark this evening and make some tuna salad. We played with the puppy some this evening. She knocked over Bell's food and Bell ran off the porch when Queen tried to play with her. She wouldn't come back on the porch until dh put the puppy in her lot. It will take some time for Bell to accept her. Its amazing how much dogs are like children with their feelings. Well everyone have a great night and happy new year to each of you.
Jean
Jean it sounds like you're having good fun with your new pup. Dogs are so darn smart, sometimes I just can't belive it.
Yes, Cheryl they are great movies, but my all time favourite is The Sound of Music, it is pretty hokey, but I really admire Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. A while back Ophrah had them all on the show, and it was such fun to see how they had all grown up, and to hear the stories from them about making the movie.
Missi and I shared a special treat tonight, home popped popcorn with white cheddar cheese sprinkled on it. That is my one big treat for this holiday, although I don't think it is too fattening, I have lost 32 lbs. so far, hopefully another 10 in the next 7 months to my birthday.
I started going through some old books that a friend gave me a while ago, and I was going to put them on freecycle, but I decided to toss them. They were very old and old fashioned knitting & crocheting books. I went through them first and kept about 5 of them that had good mitten & children's sweaters in them.
Dh is annoyed with Paddy, she eats unmentionable stuff off of the ground when they go down the trail for a walk, even though he tells her to leave it, and yells at her, she continues to do this, and it is really gross. We are going to ask her vet if there is anything else we could do to discourage her.
I too, am going to take down the Christmas decorations tomorrow. I have a 5 shelf high bookcase that I used to have family pictures on, but I am going to put them in my cedar chest, and start to put out some fancy things and such and some books that have nice covers on them instead. That should go over really big with my kids, but oh well, they can't even manage to keep me up with school pictures any more, except for the youngest dgs, and they are all badly out of date, even though I have asked for new ones. Dh & I are definitely feeling peckish towards the kids these days, they are kind of only thinking about themselves, and we have given up an awful lot to help them always. Well, 2012 is a new year, and there will be a new attitude around here.
Norma, hoping you will be better soon, your sis is a dandy I'd say.
My sis & her dh went to the matinee movie today to see the one with the girl with the tatoo and then out to dinner. We are really anxious for War Horse to come up here, we really want to see that.
Goodnight all, goodbye 2011, sleep tight & stay warm.
I hope it was an enjoyable evening for all those out. We have one guy down the street who shoots of fireworks (illegal in NJ), and even a gun (again, illegal to just be shooting it off, especially in a city, in NJ). I was asleep, but knew what I was expecting. I partially woke up, kept Asha from freaking out, and when it stopped, settled back down into dreamland again.
JoAnne, no one can tell you how to decorate. Nothing wrong with a change in the new year. The temp at midnight was 46* and the humidity right now is 96%, not a real good combination for someone with breathing problems. I so know what you mean by "dandy".
Laurie, I still do better with the little keyboard than I do with a wireless mouse. They are just too fast for me, and would be off the screen in a heartbeat, every time. Glad it is up and running for you though.
Jean, the dogs will probably become best friends as long as you and your dh keep putting them together. On the one channel here, they have a pet segment once a week, and the past few weeks they have been highlighting a blue tick hound.
Some are saying there will be 5 inserts in this weeks paper, and some are saying just 4. I only got one RedPlum in my sales fliers this week, so I am leaning toward 5. Anyway, it is a great week to pick up extas.
I will be using the convenience store gcs I got for Christmas and winnings, that will save me a bit of money in the immediate future, as I don't generally buy anything there except papers and gas.
Ladies, better go for now. I need to get breakfast, get dressed, get ready for church, and make sure I leave a few minutes early to get those papers and some gas.
