Kathy, I had a hysterectomy when I was just 40, and it was the best thing I ever did for myself!!
I sure hope Windi will recover quickly, I know I worry about the health of our two pups whenever they have something.
Was invited to my sisters home last evening for a birthday dinner (Chinese food), and it was so yummy, we don't often have it as it is pretty expensive, so that was super and a black forest birthday cake, yum, yum, and tonight we have been invited to join our ds and dil and gs for dinner at the Keg about an hour from us, to celebrate his 40th birthday. This is my Professor son, who is just plainly a doll, so two days without cooking sure sounds frugal to me LOL
Enjoy the weekend everyone, today I go to the hospital for my pre-op for next Friday's surgery.

norma, you warm my heart!

kathy, good luck with the surgery. I should but am holding out, just one more year hopefully this will all be over...

cheryl, I will try the pineapple and orange/lemon, thanks for the ideas!

swapped my unused Britta filters (didn't fit the jug I had) for home grown cucumbers...the pickling kind

made zucchini chocolate nut cake from some zukes a neighbor gave me, brought half into work...

have been using the new white whole wheat flour and it makes impressive loaves of bread...pbj for lunch is a luxury item now...

Kathy, will it be a complete hysterecomy? I wish you the best and I too understand.

Missibob, I hope everything goes well with your surgery.

Cau, how is your dd doing today from her surgery?

Patti, hope you are still on the mend from your surgery.

Lisa, when my mom was alive I rarely ever left her house without something she would give me. I love giving things to my ods when he comes home too. We are always a mom aren't we?

Anna, hope Windi can come home soon.

Dovie, welcome back.

Ellen, your cake sounds great. My sister always makes zucchini bread with some of her produce.

Sue, I used to love to have alone time but I hate it now. I woke up around 3 am and finally got up around 4 and stayed up a while and then was able to sleep better in the early morning hours. When my ods was little I would stay up late at night just to have some me time to unwind. Jacob sounds like a sweetie to me.

I have been cleaning today and washing clothes. I still have so much to do. I am planning on going to visit my ods next week because his birthday is coming up and we are going for an early celebration with him. Hard to believe my baby is going to be 22.

Frugal is staying home and eating from home. I plan on going out in the garden this evening after it cools down some. I will gather the cucumbers if there are any and check on the beans and corn. I am using free samples of toothpaste and liquid soap. I am not finding many freebies at all anymore. Of course I haven't looked for them like I used to.

Well everyone have a great evening. I am going to go make me a salad for lunch.

Jean, you are so right! When my son comes over I'm always sending something home with him, lol! You are also right on about the freebies, I'm not finding that many at all anymore. My friend that lives in Canada and is on disability used to find so many US freebies and have them sent them to me. She would joke she knew my address better than her own! Lately not much out there unless I'm not looking in the right places.

I went home at lunch, put my check in the bank, did you hear the POOF as it disappeared? I did! But, checked on the girls, had a coupon for lunchables so I picked 2 up one for each of the younger girls, then it was time to come back to work. Once they are back in school I won't be going home for lunch. I'll bring something and go to the park or go for a walk.

Guess I'll get off this thing and get my filing done. Be on later to check on you all!

Hugs,
Lisa

MISH & JEAN - thank you for the compliments. JEAN - hope your dh & ds have fun camping.
DOVIE - welcome back - so sorry for the problems. How kind of you to help.
KATHY - hopes all goes well with the surgery, and it fixes your problems.
ANNA - hope your baby is going to be ok. I can imagine how worried you are.

FRUGAL TODAY - did spend some money today. Went back to feed store and bought the rest of the critter feed that they were out of last week.
Did a load of laundry, and they are drying on the line now.
All meals from home. Made ham salad of the balance of ham I fixed the other day. So we will have ham salad sandwiches for dinner with fresh veggies.
Will be watering a little later with rain water. Did pick a few garden items today.
Still no spending on groceries.
Day 15 of 20 on no spending. Not bad only 5 days with spending.
Have to write a letter that I dread tonight. We got the final cell phone bill in (that had our aquaintance on it.) So I need to send copies of past 2 bills and itemized list of loans. (Not that we will see a dime of it back!) Maybe I will vent a little - but I won't step to his level.
After the letter, I need to work on Aug. newsletter a little more.
Beautiful day today. Sunny and warm.

Hope you all have a lovely evening, and start to your weekend.

Kathy, good luck with your surgery. I hope it helps your problem.

Jean & Lisa-there haven't been as many freebies. Probably it's the economy, companies cutting back. Even the Kraft Food & Family magazine is no longer free, wants $7.00/year. I get a free email from them that has free receipes, will just use that for new dishes.

Get well to all that are sick including "furry children". Mine is a member of the family, too.

Good evening all!!

Anna, I am glad that David is feeling better. How is Windi? I got 2 more envies today. Again, thanks for your graciousness, kindness and for sharing.

Jean, even though I live by myself, I love the peace and quiet. I can get a lot done. After answering the phone all day and talking to folks (which I love), it is nice to have "down" time. Time to "smell the roses" as it were, and time to relax. I do know about waking up and having that "gnawing feeling" that something isn't quite right out there.

Kathy, I hope your surgery is successful. I kept most of the body parts, but am grateful that that time is over. We will be here cheering you on through your recuperation.

And you too, Missibob. We will cheer each step along the way back.

Ellen, I am glad to see you on here again. And glad that you are enjoying your new bread.

Glad to see that sme of you are starting to harvest the fruits of your labors. I have only gotten 4 tomatoes so far. But it rained nicely yesterday, so I will check again tomorrow. I hope to see a great growth spurt in the watermelons too.

Ladies, I am off here. I need to get the dishes done, and it seems that Barb may be in a nasty storm about now, and I think parts of it may be headed my way. I need to get the computer unplugged just in case.

Take care all!! Norma

I received an offer of a cookbook chapter on canning. Anyone can sign up for this free chapter. It is from an upcoming cookbook by a self-published cookbook author, Drew Kime. I have his first cookbook and it's really good with lots of step by step. I also follow his blog. Anyway, if you follow the link, you can get the free chapter. I wanted to pass on the offer as I know many people here do canning. Even if you don't, you might like to check out the blog; it has great basic instructions for good home cooking--and plenty of step by step photos.

I'm busy getting ready to leave on our vacation. We leave early Monday morning and will return sometime Saturday. Lots of errands and not as much packing as I should be doing! And LOTS of list-making! Don't want to forget anything.

though I would check out these threads, and learn from some of you..
Myself today I drank out of the milk container, as I only buy now the small bottle that will last a few days, since it just me.
today I was thinking why should I waste a clean glass when it is just me drinking the milk. so I drank out of the container, the one thing that I used to tell everyone not to do. LOL, it was sort of fun to do.
