Lisa

I meant to comment the other day that I hope you can get food stamps too. And you are right, money sure doesn't go very far at the store. Dreading that trip I think I'll be going early tommorow am as we are out of TP.. Maddy is bringing me over a roll from her house so that I don't have to pay the huge prices at the Shell station. Her Mom and I do that alot, trash bags or TP exchange, LOL! It is pouring down rain outside right now. Maddy just called and when I asked what she was doing she said washing her doll baby, her bad puppy beagles Bailey and Chloe got hold of her doll baby and took it out in the back yard in the mud.

Take care my friends, I'm off to boil some eggs so Maddy and I can have egg salad for lunch and maybe get motivated to make some brownies.

Lauri I need to find some time to sew. I may do that this afternoon. I am feeling the need to create something. Honesty if I don't create something on a regular basis, I am outta wack. I am not me.
Lisa I meant to wish Rachel Happy Birthday too.
Norma that magazine sounds good. We recieved Remedy for a while but it was geared towards older people.
Lisa my kids have been helpful with shopping too. Jasmine does lose her head in a grocery store. She is like a little kid in a candy store. All she has talked about this summer is " I am so happy I can do things and not feel terrible." and " I LOVE grocery shopping. When can we go?" She now feels comfortable enough she does some shopping 'on her own' that is with Stuie and Jeremiah. Jeremiah is very protective of her. I need to get my car serviced too.
Yesterday was payday. Uncle Sam took as much almost as we got in overtime. But most of the overtime is going into savings. I do think we will splurge on a new tv. A small one for the basement. The one there is about 30 years old. You need a box ($35) to hook a DVD player up to it.
I don't buy many groceries in the little town west of me anymore. They have the best summer sausage and sausage! All made on site. I think I will putting in a special order. The summer sausage is one of our staples for to go meals and snacks. Healthier and cheaper than Lunchables!

Thanks Anna. The one thing I make sure I do is am honest with the kids about the money issue. They should know and they should learn to look for bargains as well. As I've said before, my children are amazing to me when it comes to their understanding. Alyssa has her moments but she's just 10, she's learning. I think last night and seeing the money I started with and the money I ended with opened her eyes quite a bit!

Back to work for me!

Lisa, your kids sound terrific. Reminds me of mine when they were all at home. I had more fun with them, and they were always eager to learn. All five of them turned out a ok, and all but one is very good with their money.
I wanted to remark that you have to be careful when you have dogs like Anna's and mine. They will pick up anything off the floor, and you should really watch out for elastic bands. They love them, and their insides don't!!
Nothng new here today, same place, same pile. LOL
Doing laundry in cold water, using a free sample of spray & wash bleach for colours.

I couldn't believe how much canned kidney beans went up in price, didn't buy any either. Really makes me rethink soaking and cooking dried beans for my chili.

I do need to find some recipes to use the white rice & mostly pinto beans that I have pounds of from AFM. I did donate several bags to the food bank.

Canned anything is really expensive!

Maddie and I just got done with our late breakfast/early lunch and are waiting for the brownies to cool down. I also made a pineapple cake which I will frost with Coconut Cream Frosting. I also boiled 2 lbs. of hamburger for the dogs.

Roberta, the pinto beans will be good in chili. I never use kidney beans in chili--just pinto, small red, or pink beans. I kind of just toss in whatever kind of beans I have.

Lisa you are so ooo right! Being honest with our kids about money is the onlly way to go. My two youngest get it. My oldest never did.
Roberta, use those pinto beans in chili. You can also use pinto beans and white rice in dirty rice.
I took the dogs to the vet this morning. It was a disaster. The little one had to be medicated to get her nails clipped. She threw such a fit, Stuie was a basket case when it was his turn. I am sure he thought we killed Giz. It didn't help when he saw her she could not walk or hold her head up. I posted more details on Friendship thread. What a morning!!
After spending $100 at the vet, then I bought four bags of groceries another $100.
Frugal today will be the neighbor mowing his moms lawn. He is supposed to but more than half the time we end up doing it. No he did do it all last summer because I told him mom ( we are great friends) I would not have time to do it with dh down. This year he isn't doing a great job. He is like our son, very lazy. No job, just drinking and living off mom.

Still getting figs from my trees. The extra rain has started making them soft too fast. They do drop off and fall to the bottom of the tree squashed. Will be turning the dirt over and turning it into compost. Will be making more jam today tastes great on toast. My DH was laughing when he found the figs even in his vegetable bean soup. Does add flavor to everything you put it in.
Once I make some room will be freezing some more figs for later use.
