What Did You Do Frugal Today-June 2009

For encouragement in frugal ways--large and small--look no further. This is where we share helpful hints for stretching our money, saving time and making sure we don't waste resources. Remember, "frugal" does not mean "don't spend money!" It means "be wise with what you spend!"

What did YOU do frugal today?

Anna

Well, later on today we're going down our local supermarket. We figured out through trial and error that if you get there at about 9pm (just before closing) they're reducing all their fresh stock so the staff can have discounted food to take home.

So every night from Mon-Sat we go down the supermarket at around 9pm and pick up loaves of bread, fresh fruit, vegetables, cakes and all number of other fresh things like pasta's and pizza's all for 9pence each!!!! Bargain!

I don't know if this counts to go in this section but thought I'd post it up anyway!

Sarah-Jean, it absolutely belongs in this thread and welcome! Good for you in being able to take advantage of the discounted prices!

Anna, I don't believe it matters where you are if you are a teen and you have a car, the insurance is expensive. That is the reason that I have my son's car in my name till he turns 25 (3 more years) as the premium is ridiculous! Rachel's car is expensive too, $107 a month for that piece of crap but, with me working full time I depend on her more and more so...but yes, your sis and bil should absolutely be talking about that and about him getting out and getting a job.

Today's frugal...just work, bringing lunch to work then home to make supper. No big plans and that works for me.

I will have the a/c on, supposed to be 90 F today so I have it set and windows closed, it's 72 in the house now so hopefully windows closed and drapes closed will retain the cool longer.

Hope you all have a lovely day, I'm sure I'll be checking in at work!

Lisa

Anna, we had a "great minds think alike" moment. I started a thread yesterday with the intent to leave the redirect today. Deleted that one when I saw you had already done this today!

I did move this one into the What Did You Do Frugal section so they will all be in the same place.

Frugal last night was making some tuna mac salad for DD; everything but the tuna was a leftover (if you count the mayo that was the last bit in the jar). So nothing got wasted, and DD has a good lunch for today and tomorrow.

Thanks Barbzy for the redirect, I'm so used to you doing it every month I didn't notice the sub category. I'm still not getting FC notices so wasn't sure if you would be on today.

Lisa

Yes I talked to Landon about getting a job too... my sister says both kids are lazy so this may be a challenge for him but that enticement.. money of your own to spend how you want to I will just keep hammering in as I can. His first line of defense "I don't have transportation" Gotcha! I told him all about our wonderful COTA bus system that will take you anywhere around the entire city and suburbs for about $2.00 . I used it for years when dh and I only had one car to get to and from work downtown. It was cheaper back then I think 60 cents each way, LOL!

Well back to cleaning.

Anna, for converion of money I always use http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html .

I'm not sure how upto date it is (as I've never looked around the actual website!) but it always seems pretty accurate to me.

Thanks for the welcomes girls!
