Connie, where is this new home with the apartments? There is a lot of responsibility being a landlord, when someone's toilet is backed up and overflowing at 2 am on holiday morning, and so many state laws about who you can refuse to rent to. (You have to get it into your head, that you will pay for those credit checks, or you will get stung more often than not). I think you would get a great landlord, you have a great compassion, and you are a good person. Slumlord here?? I think not!!
I, too, was lazy today. After I washed 3 loads of laundry, including one with the cat's bed, finished a hat, vacuumned the floors, and mopped the kitchen. I made lunch, and then took a nap.
I was supposed to go to a cookout last evening, and one today. Last evening, I just really didn't feel like going. Today, it is just too hot for me, and I am all stopped up again. We are having ragweed season here and it is bad. My eyes ooze this gunk that when I am sleeping dries out to glue them together.
I think I am going to make hot dogs, and leftover potato salad for dinner.
Ladies, beter go for now. I am going to start another hat before dinner time.
I can't believe that it's September already! It is feeling very autumnal outside now, and I noticed today that I have quite a few blackberries in the garden that are ready for picking.
I have managed to pick up another day's work for this week, and am grateful that I have been able to pick anything up as it is certainly quiet out in the job market at the moment.
Connie, are you still looking to live outside the USA? I'm sorry but I can't remember which country you were considering. How is your daughter getting on with Stuie?
Karen, the gate is very good, it must be very satisfying to create something necessary out of existing materials.
jjoj, it sounds a nice way to spend an afternoon. I love to hear about porch swings as it's not something that we have over here.
Not much else going on here. We are trying to source a good quality bed ready for our friend who will be staying with us as soon as we can find a bed for him. I would like to have the room ready for him by this weekend at the latest.
Take care all.

Happy Labor Day! I am being somewhat lazy this afternoon, but did put in an almost full day of work earlier. I made corn muffins for breakfast, made hot dogs and warm spinach/beet salad for lunch. I washed and hung two loads of laundry outside, made a gallon of sun tea, baked two loaves of Orange Chocolate Chip Zucchini Bread, and shredded and froze 6 containers of zucchini. I'll be making grilled catfish, grilled zucchini and tomato bruschetta for dinner. I'm trying my best to use up and not waste any food. I feel like I'm getting much better at that.
It has been very hot and humid over the past few days, but it looks like that will change dramatically starting tomorrow - 92 today, 74 tomorrow. We are supposed to have highs in the 70's and lows in the low 50's the rest of the week. (Doing the cool weather dance here!)
Anna, I know what you mean about using local pharmacists. I really like our local pharmacy much better, but DH's insurance will only cover half the cost if we get it filled locally as opposed to their mail-order system. So instead of paying $10 for a 30-day supply, it could cost as much as $200! Needless to say, we use the mail-order.
Lisa, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a bad day yesterday. I'm glad that you were able to have such a nice day with your dd's today, though.
Karen, your DH did an awesome job on the gate. Your porch looks so inviting, too!
Norma, your "lazy day" sounds pretty busy to me!
Butterfly, it's so good to "see" you. I was just wondering about you yesterday. Good luck on finding a bed for your friend.
My big frugal this week will be hitting Steve & Barry's. They are going out of business and everything in the store is $9.00. I'm planning on going tomorrow and see what I can find. DH was there today looking for a coat but couldn't find anything in his size. I'm hoping to pick up a few pairs of jeans, a hoodie, and maybe even a new winter coat. Wish me luck!
Well, I'm going to take a short nap before making dinner. I hope you all have a relaxing evening.
Karen---The gates look great. It is so cool that they were all made with your recycled woodd.
Lisa---Sorry to hear aboaut your bad day. Hope all is good again. Glad you and the girls had a good time at the fair.
Kathy---Way to go on using the zucchini. If you get a second would you mind posting the bread recipe?
Norma---How can you call yourself lazy? Sounded to me like you accomplished quite a bit!
Frugal here....No money spent today. Went to work but I did manage to get out by 2:30. It was time amd a half for today so that was good!
Have a great evening!

Thanks everyone, you are all just the best! Today was a much better day. We didn't go to bed mad, that's one idea that I've always tried to hold on to. And today's been a good day. His dd was just as happy as my girls to get the free stuff from the fair. Oh and I did forget, they got what looks like trading cards but of animals, dogs actually from the Humane Society tent. They've played with those things all afternoon!
I'm off of here, my son needs the computer for his homework, who am I to stand in the way of academic progress? I'll be on later!
Hi everyone. Hope everyone had a nice Labor Day.
Frugal for me: Stripped the bed and washed comforter (sheets will be tomorrow), plus a load of colors and whites (all in cold and line dried). Made a batch of Jalepino jelly (sounds yucky - but it's really good). Watered all the containers outside from the rain barrells. They are getting real loooow. Only 1 day of rain in Aug. Called my niece who lives out of town on cell (mobile to mobile - so no cost of minutes) Cooked all meals at home. No spend day. Then----I took a nap. YIPEE
Sitting here on computer and watching my little hummingbird outside. He's soooo cute!!!! My kitty is curled up on the couch next to me - so life is good.

Butterfly, the blackberries sound wonderful! Do you usually eat them by themselves or do you use them in baking? I was also going to tell you that I have started Goodbye, Sweetheart. I am enjoying it very much!
Kathy, wishing you lots of great deals today. Your meal sounds to die for...especially the bread!
Connie, I bet you could sell lots of water on game days. Or what about different athletic events at colleges, like Kearney, which sounds like it is closer to you? Just a thought...
Lisa, sounds like a fun day for you and your girls!
Oh, Cheryl, I LOVE jalapeno jelly-yum!
Frugal this afternoon was using up three lonely bananas on the counter and making banana bread. We picked tomatoes and restaked the plants, which were starting to fall over. The eggplant is almost ready. I have been waiting impatiently for it. This week, I will be picking up more canning supplies. Will probably be using the rest of the tomatoes mostly for pizza and spaghetti sauce since that is what we normally use and buy the most. And that is about all I can think of. Take care my friends, and have a peaceful evening!
Jamie.
