Emmalee--My heart goes out to you and your mom. You're in my prayers.
Frugal here hasn't been anything unusual. I've had lots of leftovers to take to work for lunch, which is a nice break from the typical brown bag sandwiches! Target has Pantene shampoo/conditioner on sale this week, and I have some coupons, so I'm going to try to stop there. I also have a $2 off a $7 purchase for the Wonder Bread/Hostess Bakery outlet, to that's on my list to stop at too.
Welcome ellenmelon, glad you stopped in. Good job on using up food instead of throwing it away. This time of year veggies are so expensive and don't seem to hold up well so you gotta eat them fast. I noticed this morning my bulk bag of lettuce is already wilting and we just bought it on Saturday. We've been doing alot of salads since the first of the year along with alot of fish. Tonight is Tilapia, rice and salads. I'm loosing weight not a lot but I'm noticing a change in my slacks, a long way to go but at least it's finally showing.
Frugal? Filed our taxes, as soon as they come in we will pay our truck loan off early. Getting ready to sell the second house will pay off our house saving us around $30,000 in interest payments. It really is unbelievable. Out of $4896.00 we paid towards our house this year 2005, only $500 of it went to the principal. I think they told us over the life of the load, the house would cost us $125.000. So getting that paid off will be a huge weight off our shoulders.
I heard on the news last night on credit cards they are going to start mandating that they put on there each month, if you only pay the minimum how many years it will take you to pay it off. That should make you stop and think about using them.. I bet there will be a whole lot more bankruptcy's filed too.
Well off my soap box for now, LOL.

Em, I hope your Mom is cancer free. Take care thoughts are with you.
Welcome Ellenmelon! Fc a great place to hang.
Anna, Thats great your going to be able to pay off your truck early. I try to pay extra on ours but its not much! They say if you make one extra morgage payment a year you can have your loan paid in half the time. We just dont ever seem to have that one extra payment laying around. lol I already have any refund we may get spent. (We have fuses and need to upgrade to a breaker box) I have had only one estimate so far but was quoted 1,700! YIKES! However it MUST be done!
Today dh went to zip up Evans coat the zipper completly broke. I called my gf with 4 boys to see if she had an extra coat laying around, she does. Thank goodness because I dont know if I will find one, have not been out shopping but that kind of stuff may be gone. I have no clue how to replace a zipper called mil as well she said its not easy and probaly better off buying a new coat. So I am guessing that meant she isnt helping me out on that one.lol We did get the coat after Christmas last year paid I think 10.00 I would have been quite upset if I paid full price!
Good morning, everyone! Hi, ellenmelon-love that name!
Anna, great job on your weight loss! We eat a lot of salad also. I find that our lettuce lasts longer if I put the lettuce in a bowl, cover with paper towels, put the lid on, and store it upside down in the fridge. The paper towels seem to absorb the excess water well.
Lee, good going on borrowing a coat. At least maybe that will give you a chance to look for one at a good price.
Frugal for today is staying in and having leftovers for lunch. Take care and have a great day!
Location: If not for irrigation it would be desert

Welcome ellenmelon, am sure you will enjoy the FC, so many nice gals to chat with too. Found a recipe for tuna dip , using cucumbers as the dipper, sounds yummy and low on the carbs. That will be our dinner. Dh will have some crackers with it I am sure. Have leftover turkey thawing, will make a turkey/green bean casserole with stove top dressing on part of it, for our supper.
The first of the month will only be buying necessities. Some baggies, dog food and small amt of veggies. I have my freezer stocked with meats , allocated for meals. I will be leaving on the 21st of Feb for 10 days, then dh will be on his own. Wonder what the kitchen will look like when I get back ??
Enjoy the day gals Joy

What a wonderful idea with the lettuce... at first I was thinking I didn't have a big enough bowl but I have these huge square Rubbermaid containers that happen to be empty right now ( use for dh's big batches of salsa) so I'll try to remember that tonight when I get home.

They told us when we bought our house if we made one extra payment a year it would take 7 years off the life of the loan but like you, who has that kinda money laying around especially when you are young and just starting out. I have started a new trick this past year... when dh got his raise in July I pretended he didn't just earmarked when he got it and started a secret savings account. I got my raise 2 weeks ago, so this Friday will be my second secret savings... mine in a month net is $44.00 so if I can leave it in there till the end of the year that'll be a nice nest egg for Christmas shopping or special money for us to do something just for us.

Took the oldest to the orthodontist yesterday for a look see at the request of our dentist. Well very frugal was they did not charge for the consulation (had been told on the phone $98) and referred us back to the dentist with his recommendations on pulling 3 teeth to make room for the 4 that are trying to come in.
Our cell phone contracts are up at the end of the month so I lowered the minutes on the plan as we weren't using them all and lowered the monthly bill by $10 and tax.
The water pump on the furnance has not been kicking on just buzzing and if you get down real close you can hear a crackling sound to the repairman is coming out. That falls under the not-frugal but necessary.
If you don't like the weather in Ohio... wait 5 minutes it'll change
on that note: We had heavy wind and rain, switched to heavy fluffy snow and now the sun is shining and all the precipitation is gone???? All in the space of 10 minutes, way too weird.

Good going calling the furnace repair people for the water heater. I did not know that not only can they explode, they also carry carbon monoxide just like the furnace! We plan to switch ours out for an electric one sometime this year. Course if we have a power failure we won't have hot water but I'd rather go dirty a couple days instead of dying from CO poisoning.
Been doing more searching today for candle jars, found another wonderful place in PA. this time Lancaster still a 5 hour drive. I may have gotten lucky in Lancaster, Ohio though at a store there called The Yes Factory, we're emailing now to see if they have what I want.
