I hung clothes outside at 5 am this morning before dh got up. He turned on the Tv and said "you didn't hang clothes outside did you?" it's supposed to thunderstorm here today but I'm gambling it holds off or is light so we'll see. Sure as I had went out there and brought everything in it wouldn't rain.

I am hoping Sueanne still has her old recipe she gave me a long time ago. I'm puzzled by this recipe why you need to use whole milk instead of even 2%?

I can't remember if I posted but I also made Granola Bars this weekend. I found I think a more frugal one on the 30 Day Gourmet website. It uses brown sugar, eggs, whole wheat flour, vegetable oil, honey or corn syrup, baking powder, oats, rice crispy cereal, chopped nuts or sunflower seeds and then if you want to add raisins, etc. you can. It also has the variations to make small batch of 16 or up to 96 bars at once. The one I made used alot of expensive ingredients like the sweetened condensed milk. Seems like there was a recipe on Hillbilly Housewife for make your own condensed milk but I couldn't access it yesterday... maybe she closed it down?

We don't eat alot of yogurt anymore but making it into Smoothies works well and is a good, easy breakfast or snack plus I'm sneaking in fruits.. dh isn't much of a fruit eater unless it's in a pie or dessert. I'm buying mixed frozen fruits so we're both getting the calcium we need and fruits without the sugar. Making our own will be even better since it won't have any sugars put in it at all except Splenda.

Not much new frugal to report today. Hand washed dishes let air dry. Made salmon steaks with veggies for dinner last night. Tonight will be either veggie burgers or spaghetti.

This weekend is my nephews 5th birthday July 4th so my sister will have all of us to her house for a BBQ, cake and ice cream. We haven't bought his gift yet.. he wants a lego truck, so we'll probably get that and give him money to buy something else with.

Well that's about it for now.

Anna

Good morning! Frugal for today is mostly staying home, doing chores around the house, and making dinner in the crock pot. I do have to run ds to work. He has been working nearly every day, but he helps pay for gas which is a big help. Other than that, I am staying inside with my iced tea and books! Hopefully, it will rain soon. Our flowers and garden really need it. Is anyone familiar with a book called, Shop, Save, and Share, by Ellie Kay? She talks a lot about using coupons and rebates and giving to shelters and missions. It goes along with what some of you have been talking about, I think. Anyway, it's a pretty good book. Well take care, ladies, and stay cool today!

I did well at the West Side Market yesterday, I got Bing cherries, cantelope, kiwi, bananas, apples, blueberries, plums,ne ctarines, a head of iceberg lettuce,a large green pepper, red pepper, and broccolli and a nice vidallia onion for 12.00. I put one package of blueberries in the freezer.

A month or so ago my sil and I went to my grandmothers house to clean, she wanted us to do all her cupboards to declutter things she no longer used. Anyway she had a very nice electric slicer she said I could have. At the grocery I got some cheap bottom round steak (on sale plus another coupon from them to get rid of) Dh sliced it up fairly thin with our new slicer, and I made the best philly cheese steaks for dinner last night with corn on the cob and cantelope. Frugal and better than going out to dinner, except I had to do clean up!

JJ,
I wish it would rain here, I didnt do a garden this year but our grass looks horrible! Plus just maybe it would cool things off around here. Yesterday a heat index of 98...We all took extra quick showers last night. Except for Joshie but he got a quick bath as well. Sounds like your son is enjoying working! Thats a good thing.

Also went to the library yesterday, I have been reading to ds1 like crazy and he is loving it. Plus I love magazines so have been on a marathon. Bad thing though the library did away with the plastic covers, so I sure hope I dont get my magazines mixed with theirs as its not hard to do.

Todays frugal, nothing much just staying home and praying dh gets some more interviews so we have a hope of a job.....

Hilllbilly Housewife has been down for a few months, and the forums have moved too.

Frugal today, will be going and returning my books to the library. Also swinging by the bank and making a deposit. I also did some maintenance on my computer last night, speeding it up, and made sure to do my viral scans, so frugal in a sense.

We were given an older computer, windows 95. Is there a way to add memory to it? Guess I am on the wrong forum, huh?

Great job, Lee, at the fruit market. Mmm, it sounds like you got some wonderful produce-especially the cherries! Yum! There is nothing like summer fruit and veggies! Yes, ds really does love his job. I think he likes the wide variety of people that come in. And his free movies. lol I don't blame you for using your ac. It is soo hot. Having it on 78* is pretty frugal, though.
Anna, the Miserly Mom's cookbook has a recipe for fruit bars using powdered milk, apple juice, oatmeal and honey, I believe. It is more of a softer bar, with jam (sugar-free works well) in the middle. If you are interested, I would be happy to give you the recipe.
Frugal this afternoon was resisting eating out for lunch and making a tortilla wrap at home instead, using bacon, tomato, avocado, and cheddar cheese with a little flavored mayo. Also, I made more iced tea and homemade cinnamon rolls for later. Take care!

Hello Everyone

Another storm came thru our area early morning, dumping an additional 1 1/2 inches of rain on us, today forecast for more rain, also flooding .

Picked a huge bunch of radishes yesterday, will go out and brave the skeeters and pick a bunch of lettuce and peas. The weeds are growing faster than the veggies.

Making a huge pot of spaghetti/meat sauce for supper, will freeze the left overs in containers for my dh while I am gone to WA.

I leave by Amtrak on the 30th and return on the 10th of July, am excited about my trip as I have never rode a train before.

While in WA, my family will have a get-together over the 4th of July weekend. So it will be fun seeing all once again.

Have fun/safe 4th everyone

Joy

Forgot to mention, that our 2- 5o gallon barrels are continually full of clean rain water,I let the water run into them when it rains, which I have been using on my house plants and to fill the bird baths too.

My favorite kitchen gadgets/ small appliances are : My crock pot, waffle iron, electric food chopper, also the baking stone & a Hamilton Beach grill, and last but not least, the Krups deep fat fryer I bought at a yd sale for $3, I use the fryer for making dougnuts and fry bread. Least used is the gridle, bread machine ( I agree with who said it's easier to make in bowl)

My dh received a gift coupon from the small diner in town yesterday, as he wanted to buy some broasted chicken , their fryer was on the blink, so they issued him a coupon, nice jesture for sure.

Our grass has officially turned into straw.

No rain for weeks now, I've mulched as much as I can to help save my flowers. Watering my veggies sparingly. The wash is drying on the line faster than I can wash it. High 90's for days, now they say it'll dip into the low 80's by end of the week. I was wishing for hot weather a month ago or so. HA.

Montanaczech, we're headed your way in 7 days!!! Talked to our cousin last night and now I'm more pumped than ever. We will be a little north of Missoula. You say there's been flooding? Hope some roads aren't washed out or closed. Its our first road trip longer than 6 hours.

I'm sending rain your way... it stormed really bad here for about 1 hour. So I lost my gamble today with clothes on the line, but not much I can do about it. I live about 20-25 minutes from my job so can't just run out and get them. Will have to bring in, rinse and hang inside as we're supposed to be getting rain for the next 2 days.

JJOJ

I would love the recipe for the fruit bars. That sounds interesting. I'm thinking I could even make frozen yogurt bars, just add a little chocolate syrup to them. I think somewhere downstairs in my basement I still have popsycle thingys?

We planted 4 tomoto plants a few weeks back and they are growing tomatoes very nicely!

Bluebird

You should be able to get at least Windows98 on it, it's just very slow compared to WindowsXP. That's what I have at work is 98 although my MIS guy says the hard drive is getting ready to go out in it at any time.

Beckanoah

I was able to access Hillbillyhousewife today, she has noted she's on vacation till Sept. 2005 I didn't try the message boards just the recipes. I found another good one there for Brown Sugar Granola.

Take care everyone.
