He does not really care for regular cake, so I splurge and get him and his sister an ice cream cake for their birthdays.
There are copycat recipes for ice cream cake. I will search it for you.
Anna, wish I could be with you to help you out. Do take care of yourself, it is so easy to lose ourselves at these times.
I stocked up on glue,4 oz for .20 at Walmart. Dd mixes glue with food coloring and has stained glass paint! Much cheaper than buying it.
Frugal or unfrugal don't know yet! Will be maybe paying for new copper water lines if FIL refuses. I don't want my basement flooded and that will happen if we don't fix it right. FIL is SO angry at us........ guess we broke the water line ourselves? And put the sidewalk back huh? I bet we end up replacing the side walk too. The plumber said it is old and will break......
Frugal is baking cookies today. This is an oldie from my great aunt.
Sugar Cookies
2 cups sugar, 1 cup butter, 2 eggs, Cream together. Ad d1 c oil, 1 t vanilla and blend. Stir in 5 cups flour and 2 tea cream of tarter. Roll in balls, coat with white sugar, press with a potato masher. ( This is how my great aunt makes them and I can't use a fork, it isn't right! LOL) Bake at 350 for 8 - 1- minutes.

OOps...... if you make tiny cookies, 2inches they bake in 8 minutes. If you make larger cookies, 4 inches, they bake in 12 minutes. A double batch makes over 100 4 inch cookies.

Frugal today on my lunch hour (and, of course, lunch was brought from home!):
Got gas for $2.19 per gallon (it's $2.23 and up everywhere else);, bought a Colgate toothbrush that I am sending in a rebate for so it will be free; and used a coupon for Crest toothpaste that was on sale, so I only paid $1.
I filled the wading pool I got from church on Sunday for free so the kids could play in it while I bagged up the hedge trimmings that were cut the other day so they are ready for trash pick up in the morning.
I scouped out the water in the pool and used it to water the tomatoe & bell pepper plants again (I had watered them this morning they were so wilted) and used the rest of the water on the flowers out front.
Had the refrigerator repairman out this morning to check out the freezer seal that was hanging loose. Thankfully they covered it under their 90 day repair warranty (both seals were replaced in May) as the refrigerator is now 13 months old and out of warranty.

Frugal today...well it depends on how you look at it. LOL.
Went to Wal-Mart to grocery shop, and I bought some school clothes for dd. She is almost five but really tiny, and shopping for her is hard. I bought 2 pairs of 4 slim pants for 7.00 a piece on clearance. A pair of 4 slim capri's for 2.00. I think they were marked wrong, but oh well. I also got her 4 or 5 shirts for 3.00 each (clearance) some socks that match the shirts, and a pair of skorts for 6.84. She has a lot of clothes, but I wanted her to have a few new things, because EVERYTHING else is handmedowns. They are in pretty good shape, but a couple years behind the style everyone else wears.
Also frugal, was noticing they forgot to comp the price of the milk from safeway, and going back in to get my 4.50 difference in the 4 gallons of milk. The lady looked at me like I was crazy for coming back in...... you guys all understand that I'm not. LOL...
Took DD to lunch at Wendy's, not exactly frugal, but I was craving it...
Went and picked up her application for Head Start, took her to the Wic office to get her Hematocrit (iron) levels checked, and tonight she has a physical. I take the application back in the morning, and hope she gets accepted. They denied her preschool ap because we are too low income. (Last year, as a single mom I made 5000.00. and I'm not on foodstamps, or Wic, just medical)
Anyhow, that was my day so far.
This week, I'm going through her closet and getting clothes sorted that I'll let her wear to school, and those that are too small, etc. We have boxes of clothes for bigger sizes too, that I need to go through... ICK!

Frugal this evening was eating from the pantry and freezer.
Non-frugal was buying lunch at work. A treat I very seldom allow myself. But the other secretary and I both love the grilled chicken caesar salad from a particular pizza parlor. My boss doesn't care for it, so when he is away, we pick a day and decide we are going to do this. Tomorrow he will be back, it will be Friday, and he will buy lunch.
I got some of the sale papers for next week with the mail today. There are a couple of free-after-rebate items I will pick up from Rite Aid. I think I have enough gum coupons to pick up a few free packs also.
Erika, you are doing a fantastic job of balancing your blog, new job, the kids, the house, the grocery list, and coping with your husband's problems. Now, take a breath, that's it, breathe, count to ten and relax. You are very admired by us all.
Anna, these are truly trying times for your family. I am keeping you and yours in my thoughts constantly. Even though God doesn't give us more than we can bear, you can get through this too. After all, the darkness does give way to light, again. And the passage is sometimes remarkable. You will come this just fine. But you do need to take a little time just for you. Even if it is just an extra long time, in an extra warm bath with the bubbles, and the candles, and just relaxing. What works for my internal sanity, isn't necessarily going to do it for you. Find your center, that place in you that needs internal balance, and find a way to keep it in balance, no matter what your challenges every day are.
I had never taken that much time just for me until my sister didn't work every night, and she would have my nephew on Wednesday nights. Then my boyfriend joined Kiwanias and they had their meetings on Wednesday nights. It was the perfect time to try my own "spa" night. I had always had someone that I had to do something for every night. So then I had a night just for me. I can work under all the pressures in the world, just so long as I have that one night a week to "balance" me again.
Well ladies, I better go for now. I have my appointment with the gyn tomorrow to see how we are going to "fix" me.
Frugal for yesterday: consolidating 2 credit card bills into a no interest for one year card. Would have been more frugal not to have credit card debt, but this should be a good way to get them paid off without paying extra interest!
